This Bottle Is About To Burst ((Violet Clarke))

Post by Izzy Abney on Sat Dec 26, 2015 10:15 pm

When he really thought about it, four months wasn't even that long.  It was so strange, though...sometimes, it seemed the past four months that Izzy had spent at Camp Jupiter 2.0 had flown by...sometimes time moved at the right pace...sometimes time was just so slow.  But four months was just that, and it had passed, one way or another.  And despite how he had felt upon first arriving, the boy was really starting to find his rhythm there.  People were actually quite lovely, and the Fourth Cohort barrack was feeling more and more like home every day.  People were friendly around the barracks...Izzy had met quite a few of his fellow Fourth Cohort legionnaires.  He had met the Centurion of the cohort, Sienna Linslee, and she had been an amazing help with getting him comfortable and settled.  And then, of course, the boy's closest friend at camp, Violet.

Violet had arrived at camp right around the same time Izzy had.  They had discovered each other quite quickly...Izzy had been drawn to the girl because of her appearance...she bore an uncanny resemblance to the only other friend the boy had ever known.  And although his friendship with Leanne had ended in a giant explosion, he knew it wasn't going to be like that with Violet.  As bad a judge as Izzy tended to be of character, he knew his friend wasn't like that.  For many reasons, really, but above all, demigods were different.  From what the Brit had seen, and experienced...the world of Roman mythology was an entirely different world from the mortal world.  And even though his current world at camp was still rather new, he was actually starting to feel more...like he had a place.  He had never fit in in the mortal world, not as far back as any of his memories reached.  And although, most of the time, he still felt sort of on the outskirts at camp, it was in an entirely different way.  Izzy fit in more here than anywhere else.

The boy knew there were lots of campers who had been at Camp Jupiter 2.0 for years.  There were even some who had been at the old Camp Jupiter, before it was destroyed.  There were legacies, who had pretty much grown up at Camp Jupiter and New Rome.  All this made Izzy feel even more like the new kid, though he was sure at least a few new campers had arrived since he had.  Despite that, he was still fresh blood...and the boy knew that.  It was just a matter of settling in with confidence.  Which of course, was another part of the problem...although he was quite good at faking it, Izzy wasn't terribly confident in everything he said and did.  Maybe more time...maybe more...answers.

Because there were still so many questions.  Izzy was still waiting, sometimes quite impatiently, to be claimed.  He wanted to know where he belonged...what sort of things he could do...his real mum or dad...and maybe find out about the mortal parent as well.  There was a library at camp, and the boy had wondered if there were any...records of deities' stays in other countries.  Or even if they had...passed through or something.  It was obvious that Izzy was of Asian descent, though he had no idea what country his mortal parent was from.  That was definitely something that he would like to know...if there was any possible way to discover that.  He certainly kept his fingers crossed that he could discover that sort of thing in the library.  Otherwise...well, unless it was mentioned when he was claimed...it was one of those things that he'd be forever in the dark about.

With a soft sigh, Izzy looked around the barrack, trying to shake himself from his thoughts.  He was so tired for some reason, and had opted to spend the chilly day inside.  Right now, he was the only one there, which was...okay, he figured.  Though at the moment, the boy sort of wished he had some company.  Someone, anyone to just wander in.  At this point, the Brit was pretty sure he had met all of his fellow Fourth Cohort legionnaires...and they were all quite lovely.  Most of all, he wish Violet would come in.  Izzy could really use a good talk with his closest friend.  Everything was starting to bottle up inside of him...and if he didn't find a way to get rid of it, it was going to explode...soon.  Despite the fact that social stuff was still quite scary, Violet understood.

Maybe if she didn't magically come along, Izzy would just go searching for her.  That was probably a better bet, anyway.

Violet had been at the arena for about an hour now, practicing with her new weapon, and she was getting more and more frustrated. It wasn't that the weapon didn't suit her or anything, it was perfect. She was glad her mother Ceres had gifted it to her. But her technique was all off. In fact, Violet believed she had yet to even find a technique. She slammed the bladed staff down on the training dummy repeatedly, striking harder each time. Eventually she hit too hard and jarred her wrist, causing the staff to fall from her hands. She swore, gripping her wrist in her free hand before moving to her staff and picking it once more. She tapped it on the ground twice with frustration and the blade retracted. She tied it to her back and stalked back towards the Fourth Cohort's barrack.

As she walked across camp, she past flowers, which edged towards her slightly as she passed. Her powers had devolped a little, but they were nothing to compare to thise of her siblings. But she was willing to learn. It was then that small pink flower sprouted from it's bud, causing Violet to stop in her tracks. She crouched by it and plucked it from the ground. She wasn't sure if her mother would be happy about that or not, but Violet liked the look of the flower, so she fiddled with it a she entered the barrack.

To her delight, Izzy was sitting inside. But to her concern, he didn't look too well. She knew him enough now to know that he had something on his mind. Violet took her staff from her back and rested it on her bed, before approaching the boy. She wondered what was wring with him. She knew he'd found it hard to fit in at camp at first, but Violet knew the boy had been speaking to more people lately, more than she had even. Weirdly, Violet had found herself hanging around the Greek parts of camp more than the Roman parts during the day. It seemed more... Relaxed. She didn't dwell too long on that, as she'd earlier told herself she needed to hang out with more Romans. She smiled warmly at Izzy, trying to hide her frustration from earlier. "Hi Izzy", she greeted. "How's your day going?".

When he allowed his mind to reach back to his time with Leanne, Izzy could remember how much better he had always felt after talking...after confiding.  A burden wasn't anywhere near as bad when a friend was there to help carry it.  In some ways, the boy really wanted to fight that sort of thing right now...it still felt so risky, even with Violet.  But at the same time...well, he didn't want to be alone any longer.  And the longer he put off this sort of thing, the more likely it was that he was going to lose the one real friend he had made.  Well, the one he could talk to, when it came down to it.  And the more Izzy thought about it, the more ideas he had about how to address everything with Violet.  He could explain that he was so afraid of opening up too much, because he didn't want to lose her, but he was also afraid of losing her from keeping everything inside.  The girl was his friend...his best friend.  Although she didn't know all the details, she knew enough.  It had been four months...it was time for a heart-to-heart.

All these revelations were hitting Izzy hard and fast...and in some ways, he really did know what he had to do.  Despite all the fears connected to all of it, he knew.  Some risks had to be taken, and this was one of those.  He couldn't push someone away again...not because of the past.  Leanne had hurt him deeply, but that didn't mean that everyone was going to hurt him deeply.  Violet was not going to do what Leanne did.  The similarities ended with the physical appearance...even in just the four months he had known Violet, Izzy knew how much different she was from his former best friend.  And because of all that...the boy was about to stand, determined to find his friend and have a really, really good talk with her, when the barrack door opened...and the only person Izzy wanted to see walked in.  "Oh Gods..." he breathed a sigh of relief.  Divine intervention at its finest.  "Violet...thank the Gods you just walked in."

He supposed it was a bit of an odd greeting...obviously Violet had no idea what had been going on in Izzy's head mere minutes before.  But apparently...someone was looking out for him, sending the girl to him when he needed her the most.  At the moment, he was still sort of...in his head, though.  Thinking about his best friend...he had done some interacting with others at camp, mostly other members of the Fourth Cohort, but none of them gave him the same feeling as Violet did.  In the sense that...he couldn't talk to any of them like he could with her.  This was becoming clearer and clearer, especially the past few minutes where he had come to the conclusion that it was time to tell all.  "“My day is going…” the boy trailed off, looking down.  He figured that was a pretty inclusive answer, all things considered.

Moving over on his bed, Izzy patted the space next to him.  "Can we just...talk...some?" he asked awkwardly.  He knew that Violet was used to how he got at times...and he knew that she was going to be fine with talking.  "It's not anything bad, I just want to...well I was thinking we could just talk," the boy looked up at his friend...his usual neutral face slipping just a bit.  Izzy knew what he was doing was the right thing...but it still terrified him.  And after four months of this sort of thing, he knew Violet was going to respond in her usual, kind, comforting way.  Because that was just...how it worked.

"Because...because you're my best friend.  And I can't keep hiding all the bad stuff...it's about time I share all of it."

Violet was getting increasingly concerned for Izzy now. He was talking strangely. There was certainly something up with the boy. She sat facing him, flicking her har over one shoulder, leaning backwards and placing her hands beneath her to keep her upright.
[color:737c=9933ff]"What's up dude, you uh... You all good?", she asked, trying to make eye contact.

Izzy was a cool guy, honestly he was, but Violet had always had a tiny little feeling that he was hiding something. Maybe something about his life before camp, maybe something her at camp was bothering him. But there was something. The boy occasional bouts of feeling down. They didn't last too long but they always caused concern for the daughter of Ceres. She was hoping he was now ready to open up to her about whatever was bothering him.

"Izzy, you can tell me anything", she told the boy whose godly parent had yet to reveal themselves. She meant it. However she was getting a little nervous, as the boy announced that he wanted to share everything. It sounded like he needed to get a lot off of his chest. Violet took a deep breath, smiling lightly.
"Iz, you're my best friend too! Whatever it is you need to tell me, I can handle it. So uh... Shoot, I guess".

Violet's hair fell back over her shoulder and she cursed silently. She bundled it together and took an elastic band from her pocket, tying it in a ponytail. "Right, okay. Now that that's taken care of... What's up Izzy?".

It was obvious to Izzy that his friend was concerned.  He could see it in her face, and her little mannerisms.  How did he probably reassure her that he was really okay, and he just wanted to have a heart-to-heart...to lay it all on the table?  Because it wasn't a lot of current issues, more the haunting moments from his past.  Things going on were fine...in fact, the boy was doing much better than he ever had been before.  "Violet..." the boy gave a watery smile...it was something, even if it was all he could manage.  "I'm all good," he finally looked his friend in the eyes, his dark brown eyes filled with light and warmth, even if showing everything else was a bit of a struggle.  "In fact...I'm really much better than I ever have been before.  There's just some stuff about my life...before camp.  And the only people who have heard most of it are my mum and dad, so it's just...a little scary.  But I...I trust you," even the word 'trust' was hard to say, but Izzy knew it was true.

And of course, with how Violet was responding, Izzy's mind was quite at ease.  She was there for him...she was there for him!  Well of course she was...despite Izzy's fears, he knew his best friend would do anything for him.  Their relationship was deep and meaningful, and in all honesty, Izzy felt more comfortable with Violet after four months than he had ever with anyone else...even Leanne after the entirety of their time together.  On one hand, he wondered if part of that was her mother.  Ceres was a mothering Goddess, and Violet had definitely inherited the caring and comforting.  "I know I can," Izzy's smile got a bit warmer.  "That's why I'm doing this...I know I can do this," the boy didn't want to mention how brave he felt doing this.  "I mean, just...give me a mo'..."

So the first part was down.  What came next?  There was so much Izzy wanted to tell Violet, but he realized he had no idea where to start.  There was a lot to say...he supposed starting from the beginning would work...give some basic information on everything that had shaped who he was.  He could go into detail with some of the other stuff...like everything that had happened with Leanne.  Violet was already aware of the fact that he was gay, which he had only shared with her at camp.  Before her, the only ones who knew that were Leanne, of course, and his parents.  And the boy was pretty sure his parents didn't count in this case.  After all, his mum and dad would always love him unconditionally.  But he was terrified after what happened with Leanne...though he was sure that wasn't going to happen with Violet.  That was why he had even told her.  Izzy was finally starting to feel...safe.  Baby steps, he supposed...like his therapist back home had always told him.

Looking over at Violet next to him, Izzy finally felt a bit better about this all.  He managed a better smile, trying to sort through the mess in his head...and he was, slowly but surely.  Sometimes, it felt like such a mess in there.  There was so much to think about, so much to process.  But he'd get there...and talking about it was going to help, he was sure of it.  Once he got started, he was sure things would come out naturally.  It was the sort of thing that happened, the boy supposed.  He was reaching that point...he was about to burst.  He'd get very self-destructive if he didn't let it out.  Once upon a time, it would happen with his parents or therapist...but Izzy didn't have them anymore.  He had Violet...who was...better.

"The orphanage was hell," Izzy started.  That part was easy enough.  The boy knew that lots of demigods started out in situations like that.  "And I was only six when my parents adopted me...and I thought it was going to get better, but it didn't.  I loved school, because I got to learn, but I couldn't function with my classmates.  I was always the odd one out...teased, bullied...my parents pulled me quickly and started homeschooling me..." the easy stuff...everything that had happened a long time ago and didn't need to be dwelled on.  "And I didn't have a single friend...until I met Leanne.  She was my neighbor, and...I think I've probably mentioned her..." this was still painful territory, no matter how long ago it had been.  "We were inseparable..." Izzy looked down at his lap.  "She was in love with me...and couldn't accept the fact that I'm gay and would never love her back.  She abandoned me, and everything sort of...went to hell..." the boy let out a soft sigh.  "I approached you in the first place because you're practically her double.  But Violet...you've been a better friend to me in four months than she was in years.  So I know it's time to come to you...and won't be left alone for it."

It was a start.
