Building Strength(Open) Empty Building Strength(Open)

Sneakers skidded to a halt as Violet arrived in the arena. Satisfied that she'd finished her jog, she made her way over to the closest bench, taking a seat and a swig from her water bottle. She was about a week into her new fitness regime. Recently, the girl had realised that while she excelled in agile movement during fights, she lacked the strength and stamina to hold her own against some of the bigger campers. It made her wonder how well she would fare against monsters even bigger than those kids. Due to this, she'd begun waking up early in the morning to go for a jog. As well as that, in the afternoon she jogged to the arena to train.

Back home, she had her dad to look up to when it came to fitness and strength. A member of the armed forces, he was well built and fit. When he was off on tour, Violet would often call by to her house, spending some time with the punching bag in their garage. It helped deal with the frustration she had with her aunt. She had yet to find a punching bag here at camp, but there were some dumbbells in the arena that would serve a similar enough purpose.

Standing up again, well-hydrated, Violet picked up a fair of weights, and began exercising. They were quite heavy, and her lifts were slow, and a little shaky. Breathing deeply, she continued, closing her eyes to completely focus. All around she heard the clashing of weaponry, the connection of metals. Strangely, the rhythm made by the cacophony of metal helped her concentrate.

When Gabrielle first watched Lord of the Rings and was fascinated by those Mirkwood elves, no one told her that archery wasn't just all about being graceful and having a good aim. Sure, those two things were important, but her training sessions with the Huntresses and the Apollo kids showed her that she actually needed to be strong in order to use the bow. And while she had always considered herself to be quite fast and flexible, she often ditched the camp swordfighting classes due to her inability to use swords. Gabrielle liked to play by her strengths, and being able to lift just wasn't one of them.

She might not have left her comfort zone if it weren't for that afternoon when she trained with a Huntress who never missed her mark. Not even the strongest winds could take the senior Huntress down -- she merely stood her ground and steadied her arm as she aimed at moving targets. Gabrielle was more than amazed. She had only seen that level of skill in movies, and most of the time those fictional characters carried bows which didn't even match their draw lengths. Mastering the art of archery while on horseback was a lot more difficult than she thought, but certainly not impossible to achieve. With that in mind, she headed for the Camp Jupiter arena after buying new shoes in New Rome. She would've trained at the Greek camp, but the Roman camp was much nearer, plus the Ares and Athena kids usually dominated the arena at that time of the day and she just didn't want to be around that.

At the arena, she was surprised to see Violet Clarke weightlifting amidst some Roman demigods engaged in swordsmanship training. Since the girl was so focused on exercising, Gabby decided to warm up first before talking to the girl. When she was done with her warm-up, Gabby headed over to the weights section. "Hey, Violet," she smiled at the girl. "Nice to see you here. How heavy are those?" She motioned towards Violet's weights. She almost told the Roman that she had never lifted before, but then decided against it. It wasn't like the other girl needed to know, anyway.

Violet was just finishing a couple of bicep curls when a familiar face approached. Admittedly, it didn't take much for Gabrielle Fontaine to catch her eye. The daughter of Dionysus walked with a sense of confidence, which was remarkable, what with her being in Camp Jupiter. Gabby's appearance seemed  cold on first impression, but Violet had met her a few times now, and she'd learned that the girl was far from cold herself. Her wavy locks were a much lighter hue than Violet's dark hair, her eyes a striking blue. The icy irises met Violet's own emerald ones now, as she was greeted with a smile.

Gabrielle was asking about her weights, how heavy they were. The Roman wondered if she was an avid weightlifter, in which case she hoped she wouldn't be embarrassed. Violet was lifting a couple of 5kgs, though she wasn't so sure if that was impressive or not. Her dad had always preferred a bench press to dumbbells, and the weights he lifted were much heavier. Violet preferred to keep to the punching bag. Either way, she wasn't going to lie in hopes of impressing the other girl. "Nothing major, just a couple of 5kgs", she informed, allowing the weights to hang loosely in her hands for a moment.

Violet winced as she saw a younger kid over Gabby's shoulder jar his arm while striking a dummy with a gladius. Reverting her attention back to the Greek, she smiled. "It's nice to see you too! What brings you to camp Jupiter", she inquired, though not in an interrogative way. She had no problem with Greeks hanging out in the Roman camp. Hell, she spent hours over in Greek territory. There was some great scenery over there, providing her with a cornucopia of inspiration whilst drawing in her journal. However, she hadn't seen Gabby here since the first time they'd met, on the ice rink. Since then, the only time she'd seen her was while passing her by in Camp Half-Blood.
