Elijah was very unhappy.

A few months back, he had been privy to his sister's claiming.  Ana had proved herself abrasive and wild from the start...even before Discordia claimed her.  It hadn't come at the best time personally, a Elijah and Jack were spending a lot of their time and energy planning their wedding.  And as far as the man was concerned, that was the most important thing at the time.  But the two men had been married for five months now...things were mostly back to normal.  The biggest problem was that the son of Discordia wasn't as on point as he should have been.  He was fine taking care of all the basic stuff, and helping out legionnaires who came in with problems, but complaints were logged a bit slower.  It didn't help that Calix spent a lot of time worrying about Calla and their soon to be born infants.

But today, Elijah was taking some action.  Spread out on his desk were multiple complaint forms about his own sister, Ana.  The man hadn't seen her since they first met, the day she was claimed.  That was months ago.  Ana hadn't showed at his wedding reception, which was a bit of a let down.  She was his sister.  Though in all fairness, Elijah thought that they might have dodged a bullet with that one.  Especially looking over the papers on his desk.  Problems in the Roman camp, problems in the Greek camp.  This was not how the son of Discordia wanted to spend the day.  He had sent a message to Ana in the Third Cohort, requesting she come to the Principia at two.  Elijah wasn't sure a talking-to would do anything with the wild girl...he wasn't even sure she processed she was doing anything wrong.  But it was all a part of his job.  Even if the man wasn't holding out hope.

Part of the problem was that Ana was his sister.  Elijah was starting to understand how politicians with unruly siblings felt.  After all, the man was a Praetor.  Ana's attitude and behavior reflected badly on him.  Not to mention looking bad on the children of Discordia.  Even Lúth hadn't been this bad.  At least, not when she was separated from the Tripartite.  And Lúth had been pretty bad.  Discordians had enough trouble as it was.  Things could get bad if they didn't maintain some amount of control.  Otherwise, the chaos ate them alive.  Elijah had been there.  He knew what the chaos could do to a Discordian, and the man had worked hard for him to control his chaos...not let his chaos control him.  Ana was obviously displaying the opposite...and it wasn't pretty.

The second hand on the clock seemed to be going extra slow.  Which, of course, meant the minute hand was, too.  Elijah just wanted this meeting to be over with.  He didn't necessarily want this...it just had to be.  The Principia seemed so echoingly quiet.  Calix was with Calla, and the son of Discordia had been sitting in silence since he had gotten back from lunch.  It made him a bit fidgety...the man was starting to consider getting a radio for times like these.  Silence wasn't good for someone like Elijah.  He missed the days of Calix being beside him, their conversing in both English and Latin.  Of course those days still happened, but not as often.  Not since Calla was on bedrest and all.  As much as the small man hated it, he tried to understand.  No amount of hatred towards Calla could make him wish anything bad on the woman, especially since Calix was one of his closest friends.  She needed the other Praetor now, more than Elijah did, without question.

It was five minutes to two.  Elijah found himself fidgeting more.  His leg bounced anxiously, and he kept rearranging the papers on his desk.  He prayed Ana was on time...though he was sure she wouldn't be.  As far as the man was concerned, it was one defiance after another.  But there would be major consequences if they girl didn't show.  Elijah didn't especially want to think about that yet.  1:59...maybe Jack would give him a massage tonight.  Gods knew he could use it after this.  Sure, there was a small chance it was going to go well and productively and all, but the son of Discordia wasn't banking on it.  Not with what he knew about his sister, or the paperwork before him.  And in the back of his head, the man knew being an authority figure could quite possibly be very detrimental.  "Help us out, mater," the man muttered.  "Your children need you now."

Ana was pleased with this whole situation.

Her months at Camp Half-Blood had been... eventful. Her whole attempt with Gabrielle Fontaine, whom she still sometimes regarded egoistically as her Gabby, the lesson she had learned from her failure in this situation, the purpose she found within the Hunt... Elijah would have probably said it was a lot to take in, but the french girl was fine with it; thanks to the amount of pressure and stress, her chaos-related outbursts freed her from the shackles of reason and order. It had taken some time to understand it, but she had eventually realized that she was the only one so far to understand the true nature of the children of Discordia; born from chaos, they were not meant to try and cage their wild, uncontrollable impulses. No, no, this impulsion, this thrill, this desire to mount people against each other and cackled maddeningly while observing the carnage, it was her identity. And in her eyes, the most benevolent thing she could do was to show her brother freedom in chaos - and this meant making him go over the edge like she did, and fall into the chasm of chaos. And now, here she received the perfect opportunity; a message from him, asking her to come to the Principia at two. Now, she knew why he wanted to her see -that was probably related to the seeds of discord she had sowed inside both camps, or the now innumerable times she started fights, both verbal and physical- but that was not a problem. In fact, she would use the pression he was buried under in order to have her daily fun, should she fail to make him see the beauty of the gift they had been given.

Sighing, she looked at her watch. It was two alright, but she wanted to be late, if only to prove a point. And so there she laid, her back onto the entrance to the Principia, chewing onto a raspberry flavored chewing gum. Gods, did she love raspberry. It felt so fresh and tasty, and yet slightly bitter. She blew a bubble as she looked down at her watch once more, before finally opening the door to the Principia. Two and fifteen minutes. Just enough time for Elijah to get worked up a bit, knowing how fidgety he could be - because while he made no effort for her, she did make one for him, however indirect it was; she spied a bit onto him, because she had once hoped to understand her brother better.
"Hey there, mon frère. What's up? You wanted to see me?"
She entered the room nonchalantly, sitting down onto the chair facing Elijah's desk, legs folded over each other, blowing a bubble with her gum, eyeing the reports lazily. So, she was right indeed; it was probably going to be yet another scolding session. The punk hardly cared; she used to have plenty of those, back in the days, when she was going from one adoptive family to another, her counselor unable to understand what went wrong every time.

With a sigh, Elijah checked his watch.  Of course Ana was late.  The man had been expecting that...but even expecting it didn't make it any better.  As hard as he was trying to fight it, the man felt himself starting to radiate.  "Gods, no," he mumbled, trying to get some semblance of control over the chaos.  Because as soon as Ana came in, the son of Discordia knew it was going to spike off the charts if he didn't have it under some amount of control now.  What was it with sisters that brought out the worst in him?  Well...Aurora was fine, but Lúth was a whole different story.  Though even Lúth didn't drive Elijah as crazy as Ana did.  It didn't help that the man barely knew his newest sister.  Aurora and him had been close friends even before she had been claimed, and Lúth and him were close in their own special, fucked up sort of way.  The small man doubted he'd ever be close with Ana.  Especially with the feelings she evoked in him.

It was past 2:15 when Ana finally showed up in the Principia.  Elijah took a moment to just take some deep breaths.  Radiation would be very, very bad.  Why had the man thought he could do this without Calix there?  Probably because Ana was his sister, and Elijah knew he had to handle her on his own.  Having Calix there would only make it worse.  For a couple minutes, all the small man could do was stare at his sister.  Discordia kids were so...varied.  It made sense in a way...chaos just couldn't manifest the same way from person to person.  And it evolved...Elijah thought about how he had been once upon a time.  How his chaos completely controlled him.  Calix's broken jaw...Jack's black eye and cut that scarred so bad...things had changed so much.  Maybe if the man shared all that with Ana, they could manage a better understanding.

But now was not the time for that.  This meeting had to be relatively official, as it was official business Elijah was calling Ana out on.  Maybe there was some hope for the personal bit...later on.  Ana's casual approach drove the man a bit insane, though...there was no way he could deny that part.  He stared at her.  "Address me how you want outside of the Principia and official business, but here you call me Praetor Emmanual-Wheelan.  Family or not," the man knew he had to be tough.  He wasn't going to put up with any of his sister's braccae.  Not today.  Not when he could be doing a million better things...and there were truly a million better things he could be doing...and would love to be doing.  And all of a sudden...he really had no idea how he was going to do this.  The daughter of Discordia wasn't going to respect him.  She was going to give him a hard time.  It was probably going to get ugly.  So very ugly.

"You know why you're here," Elijah finally said, deciding that the best approach was the direct approach.  Well, in the sense that he was going to test her.  The man had all the evidence he needed in regards to her issues in front of him.  He wondered if she would own up to it.  Gods...if he knew anything about her, and he did know some, even if not a lot, she was going to play with him just as much as he could play with her.  Two Discordians facing off was never a good thing...at least, it wasn't from Elijah's experience.  He felt the chaos building up inside him again, forcing its way to the surface and bubbling out, his radiation beginning again.  That was even worse.  They were just going to build off each other like that.  Every second, the man hated this more and more.

Control.  Control.  Control.  Elijah tried to take deep and calming breaths.  "I don't want to play this game, Ana.  We have some trouble and I just want to get it all sorted out.  Hopefully prevent some of it in the future," he sorted through the papers on his desk, trying to figure out where to start.  There was a good amount there, and it already felt like a disaster.  Ana wasn't going to take this seriously...and Elijah wasn't sure how to make her do so.  There were, of course, worse things than sitting before a Praetor...more serious consequences, though it took a lot more than some general issues to reach that point.  Though...if Ana went at the rate she was going.  The son of Discordia figured he should wait to bring that up, though.  Pulling out the big guns this early was pointless.  "I want to hear it all, Ana.  From your end," Elijah had learned a lot about being fair over the years.  "You know what I have in front of me.  Now you tell me your side of the story."

"Fancy name", she said in a rather bored tone, blowing yet another bubble as she stared into his eyes, her very stare plunging inside his mind, a silent invitation; I dare you. Because in the end, it was all about daring, for children of Discordia. Throwing the dice... and then kicking it as it is about to land. People will get mad, and then it escalates, letting their primal thoughts dictate what they should do. "But tell me, Ellie, why should I care?"
She broke into a mad fit of laughter, the kind that made her seem even more like a crazed hyena. Yes, this was the spirit now! She could already feel how pissed he was, despite how he held himself back - something a part of her admired, wishing she had this power a while back. But not anymore! Now, it was time to open the gates of chaos, and she'd do it in the same way she did everything; as herself.
Yeah no shit", she huffed as her brother told her that she knew why she was there. "Like the reports on that table don't make it obvious enough. Just cut to the chase and let me be done with it. I have shit to do."
The Romani took a tissue out of her pocket and put the chewing-gum there, folding the light piece of fabric over the wet mass of sugar, before throwing it into the garbage bin with a finger, shaking her head as she thought over how to infuriate him even more... after all, she was just getting started. As the months flew by, she felt more and more detached from her newfound brother. Maybe because he didn't give that much of a shit about her to check if she wasn't getting a serious problem with chaos and the fact that a random lady popped up to tell her she was her mother. But in the end, she changed. Ana craved for this, for danger and chaos, because in a certain way, she really wanted to look, if only a little bit, like her mother when she claimed her. Maybe Discordia wasn't the best mother... but deep, deep down inside, she wanted recognition from the only parent she ever had. Whatever it took. In the end, she brutally switched from a lazy, chilled stance onto the chair, to standing up and gripping the desk, looking down at Elijah with a spark of madness behind her eyes, grinning as she spoke... and yet, she felt no joy. Simply a burning anger. He still didn't understand! "Too bad, Ellie! I'm already playing that game, you just don't know the rules yet. I don't want to prevent it. You don't bloody get it now do you? You think yourself someone you can understand me? Because that's a dirty lie." Her hand flew to her neck, where the ring her mother gave her hung onto a silver chain. "That's all I have. All I have to remember Discordia Sejungus, my long-lost mother who will probably never poke around with me again. And I'm not going to use it. I don't need her, I don't need you, I didn't need Gabrielle, I don't need anyone!"

It was then that Ana lost all control over her Chaos. While she often radiated slightly out of disdain for the idea of controlling herself, now, she was completely letting her potential out. "Fight me!" she yelled in his face as she reached for her butterfly knife. "Why do you think I didn't go to your wedding, Elijah? That's because I had no reason to give a fuck about someone who never really cared for me!" Now, this was a half truth. The old Ana also wanted to avoid making things go wrong, since she was still grasping her claiming and powers... and she was quite shy. She was a reject of society, something people considered a lost cause - she had never been to a wedding! How was she supposed to dress, to do, to say? In the end, she bailed it, too anxious to go. "Now do it. You can apply whatever judgement you want as Praetor, you know I won't care. It doesn't mean anything to me. I grew in a world where power has always tried to limit me. Never. Again." Turning around, she went for the door to leave the Principia, not noticing in her rage she had started crying as soon as she lost control. It was just too much for her to handle. She had learned, and the Hunt saved her from much, much worse. But every single time, when she thought it was over, and she could enjoy the new tranquility she had found in serving Artemis, life decided to come back biting at her, pushing her control over her limits, forcing her to stop trying to channel her chaos and simply unleash it. She wasn't especially proud of it at first... part of her still did. Torn between getting attention from her mother... and her master. Doing one or the other would disappoint one side of the two deities she respected above all else. Catching herself onto the door, she stared into the distance, not even caring anymore. She had failed everyone. Was the satisfaction of pitting people against each other worth it? She didn't know. Talking about it to Artemis was too risky. She couldn't just tell her patron she had done these things; the worst thing possible to her would be to be kicked out of the Hunt. It had taken her out of the chasm of pain and suffering, for what she suffered now, was still a lot lighter than what she had to go through before. "Mom, Lady Artemis... I'm sorry."
