It had been a few hours since Steven arrived in Camp Jupiter, and he was already having adjustment issues. Having lived in the streets of San Francisco for years, he was accustomed to being independent, not a part of a Roman hierarchy where rigid discipline prevailed.

The part of the camp which he found most interesting was the arena, so as soon as he got some free time, he made his way there.

The crimson waves of the setting sun washed over the camp, soaking the arena in a shower of reddish orange light. Since there were some basic training weapons stacked up for use, Steven eyed them before picking up a wooden practice javelin.

He made his way to a practice dummy, standing around twenty feet away from his target. Steven got a feel for thr weight of the weapon, calculated, observed, and then hurled it at the dummy.

The javelin awkwardly sailed past the dummy's head. Not even close.

Steven raised a brow. "Might need some practice." This was certainly a fantastic start to training.

There was a clash of metal, and then Violet's opponent backed away. The son of Bellona had been practicing all day, she wasn't surprised he had finally called for a time out. She smiled at him as he congratulated her on a good sparring session. She was lucky the kid was tired, or he'd have handed her ass to her on a silver platter. It wasn't that the girl was out of practice, but children of Bellona were known to be able to handle themselves well.

She looked at the spear in her hands. The blade was long, and sharp, it's imperial gold coat gleaming menacingly in the July sun. She tapped the spear on the ground twice and the blade retracted into the long handle, giving it the appearance of a staff. The staff had vines wrapped around it, and a couple of flowers sprouting out of it at random intervals. A gift from her mother, Ceres.

Violet looked around the arena. She wasn't done training yet. She was just glad she'd dressed appropriately for the head. Her leather tunic had no sleeves, and she'd opted against wearing her usual clunky boots. She'd swapped her beanie out for a black Snap-back hat, which she wore backwards. Her hair dropped from it loosely. It was dark, with bright purple dyed ends. A she scanned the arena, she spotted someone she hadn't seen around before. The boy was certainly new, as he seemed to be trying out different weapons. He threw a javelin at one point, which missed what he presumed was the boy's target.

Violet walked calmly towards the boy, clearing her throat when she got close, to announce her arrival. "Having some trouble there?".

Steven was about to go get the javelin which had clattered against the ground, when he heard someone clear their throat. He turned and faced the girl as she asked him if he was having trouble. She seemed to be a couple of years older than him by the looks of it. She was pretty, but Steven took a quick look at the staff and wondered if it was some divine super weapon in disguise.

Steven glanced at the fully intact, standing dummy before looking back at her. He'd briefly noticed her fighting another guy when he came on, and she had seemed to hold him off well. It was unnerving to go from a tough street guy to the new kid on the block. It was evn more unnerving to be in the midst of a bunch of superhuman Roman warriors.

"Dummy's still standing and I'm weaponless," Steven stated matter-of-factly. "If it was a monster, I'd be demigod paste on the ground by now," He said with his arms crossed.

The other demigod seemed disappointed with his performance against the dummy. Violet patted his shoulder lightly. "Don't be hard on yourself", she chided, walking behind the dummy and wrapping an arm around it as though it were her best friend. "He is a most formidable adversary", she joked, before joining the boy back at his side.

Violet held out a hand to shake his. "Hi, I'm Violet. Ceres is my mother", she greeted, pointing to one of the flowers on her staff just in case the boy needed some proof. Violet looked at the javelin by the dummy's feet and folded her arms, looking at the boy. "Y'know, maybe the javelin isn't for you. Maybe it is, and that particular one wasn't a good fit. If you'd like, I can take you to the armoury to find something more suitable?", she suggested.

She remembered when she went to the armoury to find herself a weapon. Before she could make a decision, Ceres appeared and claimed her, giving her a kickass spear. She rarely left the barracks without it anymore. Many demigods were spiteful of their parents for deserting them, but Violet found herself admiring Ceres. The goddess had seemed so kind, and Violet could understand that the life of a goddess was sure to be busy. Ceres sadly wouldn't have much time to visit her kids. Violet wondered if the boy would be as lucky as she was, and be claimed in the armoury. She doubted it sadly. It seemed too early for him to be claimed. People were rarely claimed immediately after arriving at camp. Gods were very specific when it came to timing

Steven looked onwards at the girl as she made a jest of the dummy; his eyes twinkled with a hint of amusement, though his face remained stoic as ever. When she introduced herself as Violet and offered to shake her hand, Steven immediately gripped it firmly, a single pump shake, then out again. "Steven," he replied.

Steven tried to recall what Ceres was the goddess of. He had learned more than he had expected to when he arrived in Camp Jupiter, but he still had trouble remembering various deities and their spheres of influence. "Agriculture," he suddenly said out loud. "Right, her thing is agriculture."

When Violet pointed out that he might be using the wrong weapon, Steven frowned. "I'm used to fighting bare-handed," he admitted. "We can check out the armory, though." He'd allow Violet to take the lead here, as she was obviously the more experienced and more capable one.

Violet smirked when Steven told her about Ceres. He knew his stuff, for a newbie. "Very good. Would you like a gold star?", she teased. She looked at the boy for a moment. Whenever she saw new campers, she couldn't help but fell nostalgic. She'd had a similar problem to Steven when she'd started out at camp. Every weapon she tried using felt wrong in her hands. Swords felt awkward, clubs and axes were too heavy, and she didn't have the skill to fire a bow and arrow well.

It was actually Ceres that have Violet her weapon. It felt perfect in her hands, like it was designed for her specifically. Then again, it was literally a gift from the gods. She attached it to it's strap and slung it over her shoulder. "I got my weapon from my mother, actually. It felt perfect, even the first time I used it. Maybe you'll get one too, when you're claimed".

She knew claimings could be a touchy subject, as some demigods waited years to be claimed. But Steven was new, she was pretty sure. He couldn't have been waiting too long. He probably only recently found out he was a demigod. When he told her he was used to fighting bare-handed, she nodded understandingly. It reminded her of some of the boys she used to hang out with. They got into fights sometimes, sometimes it was their own fault, other times, they were protecting each other, or even her. "Maybe we can get you some Imperial gold knuckle dusters?", she mused. She'd seen some zany weapons around camp. One guy she knew preferred to fight with a baseball bat, another with this little crossbow he'd built. She'd even heard that there was once a guy with a revolver that shot Imperial gold bullets. Now that was a weapon Violet would like to see.

"So Steven", she started. "How are you finding camp Jupiter?". She was interested in what his first impressions would be, and if he was enjoying himself. She hoped he was. Many demigods who came to camp loathed the place, and that would make it much more difficult to stay.

Violet seemed to be a jokester, which was not what Steven was used to. When she made her comment about giving him a gold medal, he frowned slightly. Steven had been on the receiving end of a lot of insults aimed at his intelligence, or lack thereof. He'd gotten used to it, but he didn't expect to have it here.

It wasn't an insult, he reminded himself. Violet was just a witty, sarcastic type of person. And she didn't seem at all like the type of person to make fun in a bad way. When Violet's weapon came up, Steven like okrd it over again. "I'm guessing it's a...what, magical staff or something?" He inquired.

Then, Violet suggested Imperial Gold knuckle dusters for Steven. "If those exist, that would work well," the newbie admitted. He'd used brass knuckles to beat the hell out of gangsters and even once or twice to threaten or intimidate, but he figured Violet didn't need to know that.

The next question kind of came out of nowhere, and Steven looked at Violet a bit suspiciously, trying to determine any ulterior motive. Maybe she'd beat him up and turn him into the Principia if he said anything less than positive about Camp Jupiter. "I'm not a fan of all the discipline," Steven admitted. "Although it's definitely not the worst place I've been in," he added.

Lorne rubbed his eyes as he walked through the camp. Silence followed him everywhere, not dropping for a second. Why? Well, Lorne had a nightmare. Not just any nightmare, but one he had been used to before letting down his guard. It was something he remembered clearly, with nothing altered to seem like a fairy tale or some sort of Utopia. And it involved monsters. Single eyed creatures with inhuman strength and leather like skin. His parents were involved, but not for long. Night's curtain hid the grown adults from a child Lorne's site, but it didn't mask the sounds of the crunching bones or the blood dripping slowly to the grey ground like the beginning of a thunder storm.

Then Lorne woke up, and he needed to cool down. The unclaimed demigod normal done archery to relax, get negative thoughts out of his brain and go back to himself, therefore, that's what he was doing. Lorne headed towards the arena just to shoot some arrows into some dummies.

However, he wasn't expecting to see a new camper. This new male was talking to someone Lorne had heard of simply due to her claiming. Violet. She was claimed by Ceres and that made Lorne began to think who his father actually was. It was no secret the man he lived with wasn't his real dad.

Being the antisocial boy Lorne was, he stuck to the shadows and calmly began firing arrows into the dummy next to the two.

Violet held the staff aloft, to show it off to the boy. With a sudden movement, she twirled the staff around, slamming the bottom against the ground with a loud bang. Suddenly, a long Imperial blade retracted from the staff, gleaming in the sunlight menacingly. She took a step towards the dummy that Steven had been jostling with and speared it in the head, allowing the staff to hang there. She looked back at the boy, hands behind her back. "Pretty cool, eh?".

Steven's opinion of camp told Violet that the boy could be a potential friend. She had a similar attitude, towards the discipline in Camp Jupiter at least. She didn't sign up to join an army, (though if she did, she'd only be doing her dad proud). She was at Camp simply because to be anywhere else meant to have her life put in danger. Of course, it was an advantage that she enjoyed her time at camp, mostly. But training with her cohort sometimes felt a bit overly strenuous. "I agree, this place can be too strict at times. I'm guessing you also don't like answering to 'the man'", she suggested, rapping the staff against the ground again to make the blade retreat.

She noticed a kid come along and start firing arrows at a dummy. He was making some good shots. Steven's dummy would probably have been envious of it, if she hadn't stabbed the dummy in the face. But then, dummies weren't sentient, so...
She nudged Steven with her elbow, nodding to the blonde kid. "Maybe a bow and arrow would suit you?".

Steven watched as Violet's staff morphed into a spear with a raised brow. She then speared the dummy through its head, and Steven wondered just how sharp that blade was. He made a mental note not to tick off Violet while she had that spear in hand.

Steven tried his best to look unperturbed by the whole thing, but he was impressed. He nodded to confirm that it was, in fact, cool.

When Violet brought up the whole discipline and following orders thing, Steven nodded. "For the past few years, I haven't had to answer to anyone, period," he stated. "Until now, that is."

Steven looked where Violet indicated, towards the blond archer. Steven wondered how he would do with a bow. When Violet asked as much, Steven shrugged. "Looks cool. I can see if it works out for me." He made his way closer to the archer and crossed his arms, watching him intently.

Lorne was listening in to the whole conversation. The new camper wanted to find a weapon to use? Very interesting. The camper which came to camp with his bow had already known what he wanted to use as a weapon. To be honest, he never saw his bow as a weapon, more as a sport. But, with a changed world comes some changes in everything, even if the change is only slight. The new camper must have known that too, as, judging by his build, he was used to fighting up close. If he was willing to give archery a try...

"No." The male told the approaching camper, not looking away from his target. "You're not an archer. Arms aren't strong enough." It may have sounded rude, but it was the truth, and it was right to the point. He took another shot at the dummy, making the arrow land right next to one he had shot prior. "But, if you want to try, here."

Lorne stopped suddenly and handed the male his bow. "Just...be careful with that." He sighed. "It's kind of precious to me." Giving the male an arrow, he smiled lightly. "Give it your best shot. I'm Lorne by the way."
