This time of year was one of Calla's favourite, but also her least favourite.  It always filled her up with joy when she could find the perfect present for someone, but she would often get cold feet about it and think that it wasn't going to be right--and she never wanted anyone to like a gift out of obligation.  This year, she was confident...at least for the big things.  And, this year, her budget was a lot bigger than last.  She had decided that since she was never going to eat any all of her baked goods, that she would start selling them at school.  Since Calla baked when she was stressed, she had a lot of things to sell--especially in the last two months of the semester.  She easily picked up $150 to $200 on all of the things she had made.  And with how she picked her sales spot, in one of the busiest places on campus, it was a nice way to pick up some extra cash--and with her job that was paying her very well for her services, Calla was set.

She had brought the little tree from her apartment (it was only about three feet tall, but it was perfectly sized for a bedroom like Calix’s or an apartment like Calla’s).  The two had decorated it together, which really made Calla feel like they were a real couple…not that they weren’t before that…but it was just one of those things that made her innards get butterfly-y.   Under the tree were a great assortment of different coloured and patterned papers.  There were exactly five things for all of her friends, and even a few things for Cicero, if he decided to come back…Calla knew she was probably thinking a little too optimistically, since he just vanished…but, it never hurt to hope, right?  She even had found things, quite last minute (at least for her) for Prim…or Sarenrae.  And those were just things from her—not even all of them, because each person (except Cicero but he still had a few things yet for when he made his return) had a stocking with at least two more non-traditional things that was picked out by Calla.   Christmas Eve was very busy for Calla, getting everything set up and ready to go for the next day.

Overnight, Calix and Calla had played the Santa role for Myka, because Mia was fairly certain that the girl would wake up in the slightest shift that Mia was gone from their snuggled sleeptime.  So, Calla had thought that it might be fun to do a midnight present for the two lovebirds when they got back to the Principia.

On their way back from First, Calla refused to let go of his hand.  ”So, Calix?” she asked as they reentered the Principia.  ”Should we start telling people today?  I think it’s about time that we should…and honestly, I’ve just been thinking that keeping this a secret has been on of the hardest things…”  She knew that Calix wasn’t really one to enjoy keeping the secret, either, but she was hoping that maybe he would be willing to make their relationship public this holiday season.  Plus, Calla knew that it was going to be hard to keep it a secret if they were going to have Myka and Mia over for festivities.  Calla had invited Si, but it sounded like Si had her own thing going, so the two were going to do their gift exchange probably the next day.

Christmas. The spirit of giving. Since the end of Thanksgiving, Camp Jupiter had been full of it. Christmas carols in the shops, people talking excitedly about the upcoming holidays, fake snow and reindeer antler headbands. And the prominent feeling of… happiness. But the more days Calix crossed off of his calendar, the more anxious he got. Calix never knew what to do for Christmas. He thought himself horrible at gift giving. He knew his friends. He knew their likes and dislikes… most of their pastimes… but actually buying gifts was a battle every single year. He always wanted to get the perfect present, but ended up second guessing himself. In fact, he struggled so much with Sienna’s gift that he ran to Calla begging for help. The two ended up collaborating on a gift, and after much searching, thought he found something appropriate for Mia. That only left Calla. Since Calix knew his penchant for panicking in picking presents, he started super early with hers. By Christmas Eve, he could only hope that he had perfected it.

He and Calla had returned to the Principia after a bit of sneaking around Camp. They sneaked in a present for Mia’s new charge, something the two were more than happy to do. That and the decorating of the small tree that Calla brought to camp put Calix more in the Christmas spirit than he ever thought he could be. He liked that Calla made him feel this way. Actually festive for once. And what made it even better was another gift in the form of possibly telling everyone of their relationship. Calix held tight to Calla’s hand, also preferring to stay connected in one way or another. “I think it’s high time we told people,” He responded. “You know I’ve wanted to tell them since day one. Ah, look.” Calix pointed above their heads in the threshold of his room. “Mistletoe.”

"I knooooooooow..." Calla replied, a little tinge of guilt starting to grow in the pit of her stomach.  She had reasons for wanting to keep them on the DL for the first few months.  But now, it was a lot harder to remember that no one knew...except the people who knew...meaning...Elijah, and only because he'd probably assumed with the ways Calix and Calla had been hanging around for these last few months.  Hell, it wouldn't surprise her if Calix had down right told him--she didn't really expect him to keep it from the other praetor, either.
When Calix had kept her from going in his room, she raised an eyebrow.  "Getting festive?" the centurion grinned slightly.  "You should know that I can't reach you, by now..."  Her words were true, even standing on her extended toes (a full demipointe, but not full pointe because gods did that hurt without proper shoes), she was still too short to kiss him properly.

After a kiss, Calla kept her hand with his.  Strolling to the little tree she'd set up, and they had decorated together, some odd weekend ago, she picked up something for him and handed it to him.  "This one you have to open tonight," Calla smiled,  "but, after I shower."  She grabbed something from the drawer that had unofficially been given to her...after all of the times that she'd accidentally left something there on Monday mornings before she left.  Rarely were Calla's pajamas even remotely close to what she wore as normal clothes.  They were usually simple and not something that someone would think she wore.  Unless, you considered flannel pajama pants and an over-sized t-shirt was something she would dare to wear in public.  She made her way to the bathroom, and turned on the hot water before running through her usual routine, and hopping out of the shower about twenty minutes later.

Calla sat on the edge of Calix's bed and shivered a bit, almost forgetting how cold it was without multiple layers between her bare skin and the air--not to mention having wet hair...which didn't help in the slightest bit.  She started braiding her hair, pulling one strand under the adjacent, and adding strands to keep everything together, finally tying it all together with a blonde hair tie.  Even after that, she was still shivering, so Calla pulled her blanket (from her house in New Rome) and held it around her shoulders.  "Merry Christmas," Calla smiled, yawning slightly.  Despite it being relatively early for the times that Calla had found herself going to bed, it had been a long day for her--and she hadn't really slept the best the night before.  Tonight was going to be better, though, she could feel it.
