As much as Izzy didn't want to be a creeper...he was feeling like a creeper.  It had all started a few days after he arrived at Camp Jupiter 2.0, set up in the Fourth Cohort barracks, and kept a blank face as he pretended he was comfortable and felt safe.  He wasn't the type to show emotions, no matter what the circumstances were.  And they were sort of working against him at the moment.  Everything was new and scary...and change was hard for him.  And as much as Izzy was enjoying camp, he still missed his bed at home.  He missed the noises of urban London from his house, and the way the trains would occasionally ride by so fast the windows would shake.  And of course...the boy missed his parents.  The two people that loved him unconditionally...even to the point where they watched him leave with a wolf because they knew it was right.  Izzy even missed Leanne, the only real friend he had ever had until she completely turned on him for his sexuality and inability to reciprocate her love.  However...Izzy hadn't missed Leanne at all until he had seen the girl.

The girl was also in the Fourth Cohort...Izzy had watched her move in a day or two after he had.  She was pretty much Leanne's doppelgänger, and the first couple times Izzy had seen her, it was like a knife in his heart.  He felt like he was reliving those painful times, and it made him angry.  It had been over a year since it happened, and the boy felt like he should just be over it by now.  The fact that he wasn't...that he was letting those emotions rule him sort of disgusted him.  He was ashamed of himself for it.  But he quietly watched the girl from the shadows, a look of stoic concentration on his face.  That was where the creeper thing came in.  Not to mention the odd sort of self punishment that he was inflicting on himself.  Seeing the girl who looked so much like Leanne...it was sort of like watching his neighbor and best friend again.

But then...something clicked.  This girl...who looked so much like the best friend Izzy had cherished so much...what if she was his second chance, so to say?  She was there, looking like Leanne, to prove to the boy that he wasn't a hopeless case.  He could have a friend, someone else to be a part of his life...and maybe ease the blow.  Camp Jupiter 2.0 didn't have to be as lonely as 'the mortal world'.  And it was after this realization that Izzy decided he'd approach the girl.  There was no point silently watching...silently punishing himself.  The problem was that the boy had no idea how to approach her.  It seemed weird to just go up to her and introduce himself...but what would he say?  You remind me of her.  Maybe something along those lines...it wasn't infallible, but it was something.  A part of Izzy insisted he should just wing it, but he had never really been any good at that.  The only times he didn't plan were when he wanted to adventure and get lost on purpose.

Maybe it was a matter of just waiting for the right moment...whatever that meant.  Izzy wondered if he would just know when it was time.  Was that even a thing?  A gut instinct that he'd never really explored.  It wasn't him.  The thing was, at the moment, the boy wasn't even sure what was or wasn't him.  That had all gone out the window when he found he was a demigod.  He was Izzy...the same Izzy he had always been, except now he had more ideas about what had always set him apart.  And the knowledge that, sooner or later, he would find out something about at least one of his parents.  The God or Goddess one.  Okay, there was that again.  The weird things that were an ever-present distraction.

It was a nice day out, and nearly everybody was outside enjoying the end of the summer.  The weather was much different here than back home, but with all the exploring Izzy had been doing, it wasn't bothering him much.  He was fascinated by the fact that there were magical weather boundaries around camp.  The boy couldn't deny he missed his English summer rain.  Walking into the barrack after lunch, Izzy looked around, thinking it was empty.  He heard a rustle in the corner and looked up.  It was the girl!  Maybe this was the "moment" that Izzy had been waiting for.  With a deep breath, he approached the girl cautiously.  He suddenly even felt conscious of his accent.  "Beautiful day," the boy said, trying his hardest to smile nicely.  "You haven't been in here the whole time, have you?"

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Violet Clarke Mon Aug 31, 2015 5:34 am

Sitting on a bed in the fourth cohort's living space, Violet Clarke was eating her dinner. She'd been alone in the room, everyone else gone to the dining hall to eat. That wasn't Violet's scene, at least, not yet. She was new, didn't know anyone. Sitting at a table full of strangers would have felt weird. Many of the people she was living with were pretty uptight, serious, as if they had someone to impress. Violet didn't want to have to compete with that just yet. She was pacing herself. Arriving at camp had been an overwhelming experience. Being told the Roman gods were real, and that one of them was her mother. It was crazy. Then they told her she'd need to head to an armory to get a weapon. A weapon! She'd never used one in her life, and now people expected her to know what type would fit her needs. At least the food was good. Violet was sitting on her bed eating the end of her plate of chicken and fries. You could get pretty much anything you wanted to eat here. When she was completely finished, she rested the plate on the chest next to her bed, taking a drink from her can of Monster Energy.

She looked to the bedside locker she'd been given. She'd only been at camp a couple days, and hadn't the chance to fully unpack just yet. Two of her leather jackets were folded and placed in the locker, along with some of her blouses and leggings. She guessed about half her clothes had been put in there at this stage, discounting the outfit she had now; the sleeveless leather jacket and sleeveless white blouse(today brought weather that classified it as a sleeveless day), with black leggings and her usual combat boots. She felt comfortable in her clothes, they were a sign of who she was. Her aunt had never thought so. The horrible woman used to comment on Violet's choice of attire, telling her she had no respect for herself, whatever that was supposed to mean. It had taken great restraint for Violet not to flip the old hag off. One thing she was grateful for in this camp, was that her aunt wasn't here. There was one other item in the locker. A photo. Violet took in in her hands. She'd made sure to bring it when packing her bags and leaving her aunt's.

The picture was printed recently. It illustrated Violet standing in a theme park with her dad, who was wearing his military uniform. They were at a theme park, Violet's arm draped around her father's back. They looked happy. Violet remembered it well. Violet's father held a high position in the military, after years of infantry service, and he was on a break, allowing him to spend time with her. They headed to a theme park, as they used to go to often when Violet was younger. It was a great day. But as Violet knew, all good things came to an end, or a tenporary halt at least. A couple days after, Violet's father returned to work, leaving her with her aunt. Violet didn't resent her father for it. He was serving his country, something he'd been doing for years, and she was proud of him for it. Violet rested the photo on her neatly-dressed bed. She tensed up when she heard the door of the room open.

A boy walked in, with dark hair and eyes. He looked a little bit wary of Violet, which was explainable. She was the quiet new kid, who nobody knew much about. For all he knew, she could have been a crazed psycho. She brushed some of the midnight purple hair from her face. She'd dyed it recently, feeling in the mood for change - which was much to the annoyance of her aunt. The boy spoke like if he said the wrong thing, a landmine would go off. Or perhaps, a slightly less exaggerated consequence would bestow itself upon him. "Beautiful day," he commented with a smile. He was right about that much. The setting sun was shining in through the windows, giving a glow to the room. Violet returned the smile with a small one of her own. She approached the boy, her boots clunking on the floorboards. "You haven't been in here the whole time, have you?", he asked, causing the girl to bite the inside of her lower lip nervously.

"I've only been in here for a little while", she said, stretching the truth. "Thought I'd eat in tonight", she joked, giving a light, awkward chuckle. She was standing closer to the boy now, within arm's reach. She held her hand out to shake his. If she was going to be staying here for a while, she'd better start making friends. Maybe it'd be easier to eat with her 'cohort' that way. "I'm Violet", she greeted. The kid didn't seem too bad. He'd had the decency to talk to her, which some of the people she'd been around didn't seem to know about. If she was going to start making friends, the boy would probably be a good place to start."I've been in here for a good portion of my time here. The camp is so huge, I don't have much of a clue what to do or where to go."

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Izzy Abney Mon Aug 31, 2015 5:00 pm

Over and over, Izzy kept reminding himself that he had to try.  Camp Jupiter 2.0 was nothing like 'the mortal world'.  Logically, that meant that the people were different, too.  And the girl...the girl who looked so much like Leanne...maybe she was totally different from Izzy's former best friend.  The fear was there, but how would the boy know if he didn't try?  Even after all this time, he missed Leanne...though he was pretty sure he could never fully forgive her for what she had done to him.  It was a time where Izzy needed her, and all she could do was selfishly hate him for something he had no control over.  At least, that was how the boy saw it.  It wasn't like he had chosen to be gay.  Though at this point, Izzy felt like he would choose to be gay anyway if given the choice.  It was a part of him...and the boy had faith that sooner or later, he'd find a nice guy...and a best friend that would support him no matter what.

The girl's light tone of voice brought an actual smile to Izzy's face...something that was extremely rare.  "I'm rather new as well," he said softly.  Even now the boy was overly self-conscious of his accent.  He had never been too great about dealing with Americans when it came to that.  He still didn't understand what was so special about it.  "I've taken a few meals in here, too.  Sitting down to eat with a group of strangers is still outside of my comfort zone," the boy admitted.  Every time he went to sit down with the Fourth Cohort, Izzy was painfully reminded of home...and the sit down dinners he had with his parents every night.  But he refused to let that show on his face, so he sat alone, a stony look on his face.  The boy had too many trust issues to reach out to others.  Would others reach out to the emotionless new boy?  It didn't seem very likely.  Reaching out to the Leanne lookalike was a big deal for Izzy.  But it felt right...and the kindness in her voice definitely calmed the boy's nerves.

Izzy looked at the girl's outstretched hand, a small smile still on his face as she introduced herself as Violet.  "Pleasure, Violet," he said, making sure his voice didn't betray his anxieties.  That wouldn't help at all.  Taking the girl's hand, he shook it with a firm grip.  "Izzy," he introduced himself simply.  There was no need for anything fancy.  Izzy wasn't anything fancy to begin with.  And he wasn't going to pretend to be something he wasn't...though Violet was already bringing out his more humane side.  That had to be a good thing...and a good start to making a friend.  It was something the boy hadn't done in many years, but there had to be hope in the whole matter.  At the very least, Izzy recognized that he was far too young to give up on it all.  Even though he was very different from most other sixteen year olds, his life had only just begun.  And no matter how many times his mum and dad told him he was an old soul, or wise beyond his years, Izzy was still just a teenager.  He had to live the life of a teenager...though camp was proving to be a completely different experience...a completely different way of living.

There was something gentle about Violet that reminded Izzy, again, of Leanne.  Or how Leanne had been once upon a time.  it was really nice to see that same light in someone else.  And it was sort of enlightening...Izzy didn't just want to be friends with Violet, he needed to be friends with Violet.  Already it felt like he had found someone at camp he could connect with.  The boy didn't feel the same anxiety with this girl that he felt when he even thought about socializing.  It was such a nice feeling, no matter how foreign it was.  This moment...this meeting...it could make a huge difference in Izzy's start at camp.  Going forward with at least one friend made going forward seem a lot more doable.

"I guess it's easy to just hide out...being new and not knowing anyone and all," in all fairness, there was a good possibility Izzy would be hiding in the barrack more if he wasn't such an adventurer.  Of course, so far, all of his adventuring had been done alone.  At Violet's next words, the boy gave a soft chuckle.  "It definitely is huge," Izzy agreed.  "London is bigger...but very different.  Sometimes I feel like I'm on a completely different planet," the displacement was definitely mind boggling.  Exploring in nature was so much different than exploring in a city.  Cities were full of people.  The disconnect led to feeling lonely most of the time.  Nature was lonely, too, though not in the same way.  "I understand all that...it's why I've been exploring since I got here.  But I know I've only seen the tiniest fraction of everything..." the boy trailed off, trying to find the right phrasing for the next bit.  "Maybe you could come with sometime," hopefully that just sounded friendly and couldn't be misconstrued.  The last thing Izzy needed was a repeat of what happened with Leanne.  All he had to do was have a little blind faith.

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Violet Clarke Wed Sep 02, 2015 4:10 pm

If she was just to judge on his tone of voice, Violet would have thought the boy was quite nervous and almost scared by the conversation. The sheer fact that he had approached her and sparked up a conversation denied that. As the boy spoke, Violet learned that he had quite a lot in common with her. He was new, and not too keen at sitting at a table for dinner with strangers. He'd even spent some of his dinnertimes here in the barrack. That was a relief. Violet thought she'd been the only one. Maybe she could spend some of her dinners with this new boy. He introduced himself as Izzy, a kickass name in Violet's opinion. "Killer name, is it short for something?", she asked. The room had warmed up a deal and so Violet slipped off her jacket, tossing it onto her bed, smoothing out her top. She felt quite comfortable in the barrack. Though it was home to many strangers, it was cosy. She would one day accept it as her own home, she was sure.

Izzy spoke in an English accent, which interested Violet even more. She'd always loved doing impressions of accents, and credited herself to be quite good at it. However, Violet didn't try to imitate Izzy's accent, in case he was offended by it. She wouldn't have been surprised if he was. Most people at camp probably had American accents, and to hear one as exotic as an English one would be rare. It made even more sense to Violet why the boy was waru of sitting with large groups. Violet was avoiding crowds for the time being simply to excercise caution. She still wasn't sure it was safe. Perhaps Izzy was avoiding people because of his slight difference? It was a possibility, but Violet couldn't verify it. She'd only known the boy for mere minutes.

He talked about how it was easy to hide. She nodded. "It can be easy at times", she agreed quietly."But it's tough being alone. This place is strange, I hope one day I can fit in", she said. Everyone else at camp walked around like it was no big deal. Training with weapons, flying horses, goat-people. And that horse guy. It was crazy, and yet, these kids weren't even phased by it.

Izzy spoke of how he explored the camp. That seemed like a good idea, one she hadn't taken into consideration. If she was to know about the place she was living in, she'd want to have a look around. There was still the small, extremely cautious part of her mind that told her that she'd been brought to a camp full of crazy people who'd messed with her head. But she doubted it. Everything felt...real. And since arriving at camp, she felt different. Not in a bad way, but a good way. Like she was able to be herself without people criticising. There were such eccentric people around, there was no way she could come across badly, surely. Izzy welcomed her to join him on one of his adventures. By the way he'd been speaking to her the past few minutes told her that he was probably not hitting on her, though his last question could have suggested otherwise. Violet had had guys flirt with her before, and she knew it was a lot more obvious ninety-nine per cent of the time. Violet's smile broadened, and she game a little nod. "Sure, I'll join you some time. I need to get some fresh air anyways", she said. This was it. She'd made her first friend, or at least, she'd begun to. More would come. Obviously she wouldn't forget Izzy for this. If she accquired a larger number of friends, she wouldn't simply forget him. He'd been the first person at camp nice enough to approach her in a friendly manner, and she wouldn't forget him for it. She had a weird feeling that she'd found a potentially true friend.

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Izzy Abney Fri Sep 04, 2015 2:10 pm

It was a strange sort of thing, how okay Izzy felt talking to Violet.  Because it felt sort of...natural.  And the boy was feeling relatively sure it wasn't just because she reminded him of Leanne.  Yes, that had been his original motivation, but he was slowly but surely moving on from that.  initially, the stony boy hadn't had any plans about making friends at camp.  He figured it would come in time...he hadn't expected he would...find himself in a situation like this.  Either way, Violet had a good, kind vibe.  And Izzy really felt like he had made the right call, going to talk to her.  The nerves, the anxieties...it made things difficult, but the boy knew he had to have some blind faith.  Besides, it wasn't like he had to put everything out there right away.  Trust took time, especially when one had such severe trust issues as Izzy had.  But there always had to be a start...that was a fact.

But the bigger fact was that Izzy and Violet had made some sort of connection.  At least, the boy thought they had.  The fears, the loneliness, the isolation...all of it.  The boy sensed a kindred spirit.  The thing was...he knew he had to keep up some degree of guard until he was sure Violet could be fully trusted.  When the girl asked about his name, Izzy frowned thoughtfully.  "Uh...Isidore.  Once upon a time..." the boy had never liked the name the nuns at the orphanage had given him.  He had shed it a decade ago.  "But I don't like my full name.  It's just...not me," the boy gave a nervous smile.  It was probably a strange sort of thing to admit to...names were a very personal thing.  There was...power in names.  In some ways, Izzy really wished he knew more about his heritage.  Growing up, all he knew was that he was definitely Asian.  But there was really no way of finding out the specifics, which was sort of a letdown.  Isidore was definitely not an Asian name...Sister Alice had explained to him once, when he was four or five, that they didn't want to give him a name that respected his heritage because they didn't know what country he was from, and getting it wrong would be awful.  Which did make some sense, though the boy still thirsted for knowing who he was.  He supposed he was a step closer now, with the whole Roman God or Goddess parent thing.

Ever since getting to camp, Izzy had wondered if his God or Goddess parent would be able to give him information about his mortal parent.  He figured it wasn't likely, though.  If Greco-Roman mythology was exactly the same in modern times, no God or Goddess stuck around with a mortal.  Though in all fairness, the boy had very little of an idea how it all worked anyway.  The nuns had always told him he had just been dropped at the orphanage, so...who had ever dropped him?  Having spent most of his life with his mum and dad, Izzy hadn't necessarily needed answers.  He loved his parents...sure, he'd think about it from time to time, but he spent most of his time grateful for them.  Ever since he found out he was a demigod, the thoughts haunted him constantly.  Now was when he truly needed answers.

Izzy was silent for a moment after the girl spoke.  He understood...it was how he felt, anyway.  "Six of one, half dozen of another, I suppose," the boy finally said thoughtfully.  Where was that balance, anyway?  The safety of hiding out, the loneliness of hiding out...it wasn't really something the boy was any good at.  He hid.  He hid because he didn't want people to see who he was...for the most part.  But even he didn't want to be alone forever.  He wanted to find people...friends, a boyfriend someday...with all that, there was a lot he had to get over, though.  "Socializing is...a daunting task," there was something about Violet...that Izzy wanted her to know he wasn't very good at this, but the fact that he was trying was a really big deal.  That was a thing he was doing okay with...at least he thought so.  After all, he was the one who had approached her, even though he was clearly awkward as anything and way outside of his comfort zone.  This was the sort of thing the boy imagined his parents would classify under 'baby steps'.

Another baby step?  Living in the moment.  Izzy was quite talented at getting caught up in his thoughts.  Hopefully he hadn't stood there silently for too long.  He thought he was fine.  After all, his thirst for adventure and exploring kept him going and staying in the present.  The thought of finding someone to explore with was actually pretty exciting...though the boy wasn't entirely sure why he was so excited.  Maybe he really was tired of being alone all the time.  And Violet could definitely be a friend...it truly seemed like this was the start of something great.  And at the moment, Izzy was really okay with that.  Truly a case of being brave paying off.  "There's so much to see!" with this, even Izzy couldn't keep the excitement out of his voice.  "And it'll be so much better not to be doing it alone," the boy had to keep going...there was no turning back now...and that was really okay.

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Violet Clarke Wed Sep 09, 2015 12:03 pm

((Sorry it's taken a while, I've been busy the past few days! ))

Violet considered Izzy's offer some more. For someone she'd only known for a short time, Izzy seemed very friendly. Perhaps the boy was just a nice guy. Or maybe he was just really in need of a friend. Violet wasn't too bothered by his motive's however. He was offering an adventure, and that was an offer she couldn't turn down.  Back before she came to camp, she'd always been one to cease opputunities that came her way. If asked to go places with her friends, or try new activities, Violet would usually do so. The idea of adventuring appealled to her.

"Okay then, it's settled", she beamed, sitting back down on the side of her bed."So Izzy, when and where shall we head out on our little excursion?", she asked. She thought of how to further the conversation. They should get to know one another, that is, if they were going to be closer friends. Violet pursed her lips momentarily. "So... What can you tell me about yourself Izzy? Hobbies? Preffered music?", she asked. Violet already knew how to answer the questions if Izzy asked them back. She'd spend most of her free time drawing or listening to music(or doing both at the same time). She also enjoyed shooting guns with her father, whenever he'd been around at home. Though she knew guns could be a problem in some parts of the country, Violet saw their recreational function. Back when she was living with her aunt, she'd often swing by her dad's place, where he'd keep his Colt Python. She'd then head out the back and start shooting glass bottles. It was surprisingly therapeutic when anger and frustration became a problem for her.

The thought of weaponry then led Violet's mind to the armory. She'd seen many kids around camp carrying weapons, and they'd told they'd gotten them at the armory. Violet wanted one badly. She'd always had an interest in weaponry, for as long as she could remember. An odd interest, admittedly. She wondered if Izzy would be open to showing her to the armory after their adventure, so they could browse the place a while. She would have liked that.

A couple of boys  entered the barrack, making brief eye contact with Violet. As they did, Violet raised and lowered her eyebrows quickly in a sort of salute. Now that she was conversing with Izzy, she felt like she could start trusting these people a little more. She looked her friend again, nodding to the bed opposite to her, hoping he'd sit down. "We might as well chill here for a while", she said. She was aware her locker was open a crack, and the mess it was in was probably quite visible, but she wasn't bothered. She'd tidy it up later...

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Post by Izzy Abney Thu Sep 10, 2015 4:00 pm

Along with Violet agreeing to go out exploring with him, Izzy felt a happy fluttering of hope in his stomach.  Because as much as he tried to convince himself this was a new start, a second chance, whatever...it was a lot more difficult to put into practice.  He could attempt all the positive thoughts in the world, just as his therapist had been working with him on, but it was all for naught if he didn't actually act on any of it.  Going up to the girl was a big risk for him...and the boy was pretty sure he'd have been pretty crushed if it hadn't worked out well.  "Yes...it's settled," Izzy looked down, trying to hide his excitement.  Even with all of it, he wasn't really ready to just go showing emotions like that.  Emotions, especially emotions like that, took a lot more trust.  The only thing was that the boy could imagine sharing that stuff with Violet sometime down the road.  He could already tell she was a good person...someone he was going to love having in his life.

"When and where..." the boy repeated thoughtfully.  Izzy wasn't very good at planning.  His love of exploring led to a more...impulsivity.  It had always been one of those things where he went out when he felt like going out, stayed out as long as he wanted to stay out, and returned home when he wanted to return home.  Back home, his mum and dad had always allowed him that independence.  And it was the sort of thing that had always worked for him.  "We just let the right moment find us," Izzy finally said with a nod of his head.  "It's much better to do it like that...the excitement that comes with it and such," hopefully that was as acceptable an answer for Violet as it was for Izzy.  Even in a new place, he wanted to do things his own way.  Gods knew they had the independence here, as well...even more so than back home.

Every time Izzy thought about home, he had to remember that Camp Jupiter 2.0 was his new home.  It didn't feel like home just yet, but the boy knew he was going to be there for awhile...who knew when he'd be back in London?  Who knew if he'd ever be back in London?  The boy had been trying to find effective ways of communicating with his mum and dad...so far he had sent them a couple letters, but there were times he wanted more instant talks.  Someone had mentioned a phone in the senate house in New Rome, but Izzy was still a bit apprehensive about going there and finding out for himself.  As far as he knew, no one had phones at camp...there was that whole danger aspect with cell phones attracting monsters when demigods used them...though the boy had also heard that camp had all sorts of magical protections.  He had no idea what to think or believe about any of it.  Things would fall into place, though...even if Izzy didn't exactly believe those words, that didn't mean they wouldn't come to pass.

Mulling over her question, Izzy was suddenly wishing his life and loves were less...boring.  "There's not much to me," he admitted.  "I love to explore and learn.  I prefer reading non-fiction to fiction books, but I love the classical poets," sometimes, the boy really did feel like that type of homeschooler.  It wasn't that he was ignorant to pop-culture, just that he didn't much care for it.  Besides, he felt like lots of it had already been done...why get all excited over One Direction when one could appreciate The Beatles as the original boy band?  "I like a lot of classic rock...The Beatles, Queen...even some punk stuff like The Clash and The Who," that wasn't anything too strange, Izzy supposed.  Some people were like that in general...though Leanne had always teased him for his taste in music in movies, accusing him of living in the past.  "And my favorite movies are mostly film noir and Hitchcock, though I think they overlap a lot at times" it was nice talking about all this to someone, even if it was all a bit strange.

But that was just who Izzy was.  He nodded in acknowledgement of remaining in the barrack and talking.  With Violet's prompting, he said down on the bed across from her's, still smiling a bit shyly.  "So what about you?  Books...movies...music?" there was definitely something to be said for the simple things in getting to know someone.  It was imperative to start somewhere, and diving right in to the heavy stuff definitely wasn't a good idea...at least, not as far as Izzy was concerned.  He had so many questions, but held his tongue for the moment...the superficial might be a little...well, just that, but it had to happen that way...the boy just had to reroute those thoughts again.  Obviously, he was already starting to practice these things.

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

Izzy and Violet's literature preferences contrasted. While Izzy preffered non-fiction, Violet had a passion for fictional works. She felt they left more to the imagination, and because of that, fictional books could take you anywhere. She'd always found them immersive, as when a book was good, she felt as if she was almost inside of it. Violet internally chided herself for thinking in this way. It was so... nerdy. But it was a factor of what made up the strange individual she was. She cluld respect Izzy's music tastes. She enjoyed classic rock, and the guy liked Hitchcock. Violet always used to watch Hitchcock horrors with her dad, particularly Psycho. Weirdly, that was their favorite.
"I'm more of a fiction gal myself. I love Alternative rock, but I can respect the classic stuff. As for movies... I'll watch anything, but there's nothing I love more than a good horror or slasher. Hope that doesn't sound a little psychotic", she smirked. "I guess one of my favorite hobbies would be shooting. My dad's an army man, so it kinda comes naturally. The Colt Python's the gun I use, but don't worry, I only shoot plastic target sheets", she explained.

She thought about the adventure. Izzy suggested they wait and let the adventure find them. But an adventure wouldn't find them in the barrack, surely. "Well, I think we should head out tomorrow, maybe to the arena. I've seen too many people around here with weapons, and I haven't got any. Maybe someone at the arena will teach us to use them. Unless they give me a revolver,  I'm going to need a trainer," Violet joked. She honestly did want a weapon. If she was a demigod, and monsters were going to try and attack her, then she wanted to be ready. She already knew she was a little acrobatic, as gymnastics had been emphasised at Gym class in their school. Their school had this idea that any girl could be a cheerleader, and so, they bombarded them with acrobatic classes. Violet had become pretty good, but refused to join the cheerleaders, despite the coach's suggestions. That wasn't her style.

She took the plate she'd been eating food from. "I shapuld probably drop this back to the mess hall. You're welcome to come with", she offerred. She then gave a short laugh, cutting it off in case Izzy thought she was crazy. "It looks like adventure's found us already!"

You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L] Empty Re: You Remind Me Of Her ((Violet Clarke)) [PG-13: L]

The boy couldn't help but get nervous as he talked about the things he enjoyed.  A lot of it was sort of strange...not that Izzy could really pretend to have more normal interests.  He wasn't very good at pop culture, and his parents had never really pushed him to enjoy that sort of thing.  They had insisted on giving him a well rounded education when it came to this stuff, which had included current pop culture, but Izzy had never taken much interest in it.  Most of his peers weren't like that...he even had memories of hearing his peers talking about how boring black and white movies were.  This had seemed rather absurd to the boy, as plots didn't get boring just because they weren't in color, but to each their own, he figured.  It was just a same that his peers didn't seem to understand the whole 'to each their own' thing.  Kids were so cruel, so ignorant and self-centered.  It was one of the many reasons why Izzy stayed away from them all.  Well, he had in the mortal world.  Maybe things really were going to...change at camp.

"I like facts," Izzy gave a weak chuckle...even the smallest hint of laughter felt strange at times.  "I have a tendency to overanalyze fiction.  It's just not as enjoyable for me," it wasn't the type of thing one would expect for an eighteen year old boy.  Or any teenager in general, really...at least the ones who enjoyed reading at all.  "I mean...I'll read fiction from time to time.  There's definitely some good stuff out there," moment after moment, Izzy was feeling better and better speaking with Violet.  Even if, at first, he had approached her because she looked like Leanne, the boy was learning about the entirely different person she was...and how nice it was connecting with her anyway.  It felt like the two were on the fast track to a friendship...at least, that was how the boy was feeling about it.  And he was pretty sure the girl felt exactly the same.  Izzy wasn't always the best at reading people...in fact, he was quite dreadful at it, but sometimes...he realized that there was so much more to it.  And that was okay.  "A good slasher film is always fun.  But only the classics."

Izzy's eyes widened when Violet talked about shooting as a hobby.  "That's quite impressive," the boy said with a low whistle.  He couldn't even imagine even holding a gun...it definitely was not him.  But he had a healthy respect for shooting as a hobby...though he would have a hard time with it if it involved killing animals or such things.  But plastic target sheets sounded okay.  Izzy was pretty sure that wouldn't involve anyone getting hurt.  "I couldn't even imagine doing that.  I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the guts to hold a gun, anyway," the boy's parents were very much on the pacifist side of things.  On one hand, the boy was pretty sure they wouldn't happily let him try shooting, but if he wanted to, they'd let him give it a shot at a shooting range or something.  That was just the way Izzy's mum and dad were.  They wanted him to explore all the different things he wanted to.  They weren't the type to cheat him out of an experience just because of their feelings on the matter.  "I don't think my mum and dad would be too keen on me shooting a gun, honestly," the boy was pretty sure there were no guns at camp...which was sort of the end of the matter.

With a queasy smile, Izzy nodded.  "We should, yes...adventure won't find us if we're just sitting around," that was certainly a thing...nothing would come their way if they were holed up in the barrack.  "The arena sounds reasonable to start.  I've been going into the woods a lot with weapons I don't know how to use.  They say not to go in there without something, though...because there are monsters in there and all," the boy had heard people talk about weapons...how sometimes Gods or Goddesses would gift weapons when they claimed a demigod, or a Vulcan or Hephaestus camper could balance a weapon properly for someone.  At this point, Izzy wasn't entirely sure where to start with all of that...but he had to do something about it.  "The woods are also wonderful.  I've spent a lot of time there...there's so much to see.  I can barely keep track of whether I've been in a part of them or not," it was something that Izzy loved about the woods.  It was all so...new.

Violet's laugh was nice to hear...and sort of relaxed Izzy.  "I'll certainly come with," he grinned.  He had to stop being afraid...and just move forward.
