Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Elijah Emmanual-Wheelan Tue May 28, 2013 5:23 pm

At this point, Elijah was fairly certain that if he didn't get some good sleep soon, he'd be taking a Calix-proportioned sized dive off the deep end. The past three nights had provided a whopping seven or eight hours of sleep total, and although the boy wasn't completely sure what that meant, he was kind of afraid that would place him in the sleep deprived hallucination stage. Which didn't sound appealing in the slightest. Not that there was any helping it...Elijah had always had issues sleeping and lately, with the nightmares...at least something in his brain was subconsciously reminding him that waking up screaming was a bad idea since there was an eight year old sleeping in a sleeping bag on his floor. Now the nightmares just brought a pain in his chest and feeling like there was a lack of air when he woke up. And the nightmares were getting worse. Up until recently, they had been Elijah's own reliving that day...running to where Lúth had been kidnapped to find it was too late to do anything. She was gone and all that remained was a horrible feeling in the air...one that could only belong to the Lord of the Underworld. Now the boy was experiencing what had actually happened...or so he assumed. He hadn't been there. He didn't know. But the boy figured demigods had a track record with these things...but whatever it was, Elijah knew he just kind of had to shut up and deal. Without Calix around to help out, Elijah had to be the one to take charge and keep things running smoothly. At this point, most of the Romans were aware of the fact that one of their Praetors was out of commission at this point, but the son of Discordia was doing everything in his power to make sure things were as steady with just him as they would be with him and Calix. It was a lot of effort, but the boy didn't want to let anybody down. He was doing his part...even if the responsibilities had doubled.

Another day skipping his morning run and training session, as well as breakfast, in an attempt to get more sleep. It was still pretty early, and Elijah had been tossing and turning for hours before figuring it made no sense to stay in bed and he should just go track down Jack or River. Even though he wouldn't get much time with them, it would be a better way to start his morning than going straight to new paperwork and Legionnaire issues. Maybe Elijah would even get lucky today and he wouldn't have to deal with any Legionnaire issues. The boy wasn't sure he was in the right mood to be helpful, and since, as Praetor, punching people in the face during "official" moments would be bad, Elijah figured he should start praying now that he got left alone. Just the small boy, the mountain of paperwork, and the deafening silence of the Principia's main room. At this point, the boy wasn't really a boy anymore. He had taken too much on...and not by choice. Well, sort of by choice. His options had come down to 'take everything on to keep Camp Jupiter functioning' or 'let Camp Jupiter collapse'. And since camp was the only home Elijah really knew, he wouldn't stand to watch it collapse. A slight shiver went up the boy's spine when he thought about what could happen if he pulled a Calix and just hid in his room forever. Honestly, he didn't want to think about it. The thought was too terrible...a true nightmare that Elijah didn't want to think about, or live through. Better to run the Legion himself than watch it fall apart. Besides...the boy glanced at the blue crystal hanging from a long chain that he had yet to put on...Lúth would be back soon and Calix would be back in working order. Grabbing the necklace, Elijah pulled it on before tucking it safely under his shirt, the blue crystal thumping steadily like a heartbeat against his own heart.

Now would probably be a good time to go looking for food...before the day got underway and all. Not that Elijah was especially hungry, but he didn't exactly have any weight to spare losing. A glass of soymilk, at least. Whoever was in charge of keeping the Romans fed was awesome about making sure there was always something vegan friendly for the boy. Even more so than when he was living with his dad and step-mom (then again, Elijah ate a lot of pasta with vegan meatballs back home, so he wasn't sure that really counted). And Jack had somehow figured out how to access the kitchen or whatever, so the boy was getting even better food. There was no way Elijah could deny his boyfriend had talent in the kitchen, even though he had never catered to a vegan before. Sometimes it felt like the boy couldn't get any luckier...and in all honesty, he probably couldn't. Despite the lack of sleep and feeling like he could collapse at any point, the boy was being kept sane by Jack. Strange how that worked, truly. The older boy had been driving Elijah insane before they got together, though the reasoning for everything was completely different. With a sigh, the boy slung his messenger bag over his shoulder and walked out of his room. He didn't bother locking it up anymore...Tac was in and out too much, and it was inconvenient to the child to have to find Elijah every time he wanted to get into the Praetor's room. The only ones who would be coming that way were Jack and River, anyway. Elijah didn't have anything too valuable to be stolen, and overall, it just didn't really matter.

Adjusting his bag on his shoulder, Elijah walked down the hall to the main room of the Principia. Not in a fabulous mood, but not in too dark of one either. He'd feel better after seeing Jack or River for sure. And definitely much more ready to take on the day. Reaching the main room, the boy paused. There was a girl with her back turned, probably getting ready to leave. Long dark red hair...Elijah had seen hair that color before. Though not around here, not around Camp Jupiter. It had been months ago. The wintertime...probably when she had been at camp over her break. And the feelings it brought up for the boy. What he had boldly said to the daughter of Zeus...really, Elijah should know better than to mess with demigods who definitely had greater and more useful powers than he did. Though really, in the end, the boy was pretty good at doing undeniably dumb things. It probably had something to do with the fact that he had more swirly chaos mess than brains in his head. And undeniably dumb things led to more undeniably dumb things...there was no way Elijah was going to let Adele walk away with him saying something. Regardless of what she was doing in the Principia at such an odd time. "You disappeared again," Elijah called to the girl's retreating form. He wasn't sure she was even aware of his presence, but she had to be now. "I told you to watch her, but you didn't," Bonnie was fine with or without Adele, in Elijah's opinion...but Adele was still the younger girl's sister, and looking at everything, Bonnie needed her there. More than ever before, Elijah was figuring out the importance of family, and he didn't like this one bit.

Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Re: Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Guest Wed May 29, 2013 12:35 am

Two hours later, Adele sat up and reached for the ceiling, exhaling happily as she thought over what she had accomplished that day, besides putting Calix to sleep. Given the fight he'd put up at the beginning of the day, Addy chose to count that as a complete and total success - he looked like he was sleeping peacefully, and the bit of nurse Adele had inherited from her mom was satisfied so much so that Adele found herself smiling faintly - never mind he was going to be holding onto her nalgene for a bit longer. Adele didn't exactly have many other bottles to choose from (none at all, really), but the small bit of her that wanted water was quickly stamped into oblivion by the rest of her that remembered her mother's lectures on the legal and moral definitions of "abandonment" and the series of lectures on personal responsibility by her ethics class - Adele Frye was simply not going to turn her back on those memories, not now that she knew where she wanted to go.

That same part of her forced her to pack quietly, which was a good change - for the first time, her precious laptop that she couldn't afford to replace, was placed gently in the bottom of her bag. The zippers on that bag, however, were metal and naturally and unavoidably loud. They, thankfully, didn't seem to bother the sleeping Praetor in front of Adele, nor did the sound of her standing and thumping her bag onto her back (once the pack broke ten pounds of weight, Adele had found it impossible to keep that particular procedure thumpless). As soundlessly as she could, which was difficult in her running shoes that weren't exactly made for stealth, Adele snuck away from the sleeping figure, her footsteps growing only slightly heavier as she approached the door. The clock on her computer had read sometime midmorning the last time Addy had looked at it, presenting the ginger with a challenge she wasn't entirely sure she was up for: sneaking out of Camp Jupiter without being recognized as an outsider (and it was obvious she was - Adele was the only resident with a backpack), and without being seen by Russell. God knew she didn't need another "believe in this stuff" lecture.

But the voice that rang out from behind her was far, far worse than the unwelcomed speeches by her ex. Was that the right term for him? Yes, they had hooked up enough over winter break that she still managed to have feelings for him some months later, but they had never dated - no, Russell wasn't an ex, but he was more than a fling. Elijah called out again, and Adele slowly pivoted on her heel, briefly kicking herself in the head for not paying attention to what Bonnie's hero and saint had just said - it might've been good information, somehow. What she did manage to hear definitely set the tone for what Adele could guess Elijah had said, and she could certainly guarantee that none of it was pretty. Nothing the two ever said to the other was, actually, even when Bonnie was around - it was all Adele could do to simply hope that her sister was still young and naive enough to miss the thinly-veiled threats that the two older "siblings" like to level against one another.

"I seem to remember telling you both that I was only staying for a month," Adele spoke, fighting the urge to cross her arms. That pose was weak and closed off, so she'd been told by many theater majors and speech coaches. Shoulders down, chin up, arms relaxed, they said, and Adele did her best to fit that description now that she faced Elijah. "And I also seem to remember trying to find Bonnie as often as I could over winter break, but she always seemed to be off, doing things that I couldn't take part in," Adele continued, taking a single step closer to Elijah, though she was careful to keep her distance. Something about this kid made Adele lose her head, a mistake she couldn't afford to keep making time after time with someone who had such a low opinion of her already. Especially not against someone who rivaled her so closely in the race for Bonnie's attention. If Bonnie had found anyone else to replace Adele as a sibling, the redhead knew she wouldn't be doing this exact same thing with them, even if they put up the same sort of attitude when Adele came into the picture - Elijah irritated Adele. There was no other word for it.

Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Re: Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Elijah Emmanual-Wheelan Sun Jun 02, 2013 8:12 am

Although Elijah had never considered himself the "big brother" type, Bonnie had put the boy in that position long ago. And in all honesty, Elijah didn't mind. Not only did the boy know the young girl needed that kind of figure in her life, he liked the girl a lot. She was caring and compassionate but so vulnerable at times...she needed someone to watch over her and make sure she was doing okay. Elijah had become that person...but he knew he was only a stand in for the young girl's actual sister. In some ways, anyway. Adele was only at camp over school holidays, and Elijah was there all year round, at the ready to do anything for Bonnie. The boy didn't get all that, really...Bonnie considered Elijah her older sibling as much as she did Adele. As the boy was learning about different types of relationships, familial ties made more sense. In a way...the boy's relationship with Lúth had been completely out of the norm, but they kind of made sense that way. In a nonsensical way. With a soft sigh, Elijah concentrated on the beating crystal for a moment. Lúth was his sister, and she wasn't there...when she came back (because she would), would things be different? Would she be a different Lúth? And she'd definitely be coming home to a different Elijah. What was their relationship going to turn into? Sadly, the boy thought about the last time he had seen his sister. The song she had played for him...the tearful hug he had given her...at least they had had that moment before she was taken, whatever that moment was. But Elijah's relationship with his actual older sister than it was with Bonnie. Bonnie was twelve, she needed an actual older sibling, someone who was there when she needed them. Always, no matter what.

Really, Elijah shouldn't be getting angry at Adele. She was right...she had said she would only be there for a month. She had surely tried to be with Bonnie as much as possible during that month, the boy didn't doubt that for a second. Had there been letters? Iris Messages? Elijah didn't know, but he figured Bonnie would have shared the information if there had been. The young girl definitely loved her sister a lot. There had to be something, even if the son of Discordia didn't know about it. None of that made him any less angry, though, in fact, it kind of made him angrier than before. And then it wasn't long until he felt the telltale signs of radiating. The chaos...heavy waves rolling from his very being. As usual, a "power" that got the boy into more trouble than helping him out of it. And who knew what it would do to a child of Zeus. A "fun" experiment (even Elijah's thoughts were sarcastic...never a good sign). The boy's interaction on the Sound with Russell had been bad enough...who knew how Tac had reacted to the radiation...now it was time to tick off a daughter of Zeus. The whole trifecta...great. Elijah knew he had to choose his words carefully. It definitely wasn't in his best interest to get struck dead by a bolt of lightning. Though he kind of liked to think it would get a bunch of people angry and they'd go off for revenge. Gods...Elijah couldn't keep this up. Despite the anger, radiation, and general thoughts of malevolence towards the older girl...the boy knew what actually had to happen. He didn't like it, but they had to make some sort of peace for Bonnie. It wasn't fair to the young girl to have the two people she really looked up to hating each other. No matter how much they might try to hide it...Bonnie wasn't dumb.

"Look..." Elijah finally said firmly. "I'm not one to judge. I don't know if you sent letters or Iris Messages..." trailing off, the boy looked down. "Though it would be pretty terrible if you didn't..." he mumbled under his breath. With a deep breath, Elijah looked up at Adele, brows furrowed slightly. His time as Praetor had left the boy much more diplomatic than he had ever been. Sure, he still said stupid things a lot of the time, rarely made sense to people around him (although everything he said made perfect sense to him), but in a situation like this one, Elijah knew he had to be serious. This was something that involved Bonnie, who the boy knew well at this point...and Adele, who the boy knew nothing about and didn't really care to. But being serious was integral here...the son of Discordia and the daughter of Zeus couldn't continue to have these sort of issues with each other, especially around Bonnie. Veiled jabs at one another could quickly turn into a disastrous argument. And Elijah didn't want Bonnie to have to see that. But Adele just rubbed Elijah the wrong way...her attitude made him radiate like crazy, and in a perfect world, the boy wouldn't have to deal with the older girl at all. It wasn't a perfect world, though. And just as River had to accept that Jack was a part of her life as much as he was in Elijah's, the Praetor had to accept that Adele was in his life because of Bonnie. Maybe it was time to step up to the plate and just do the right thing. No matter how stupid he sounded doing it.

Simple words...that was all Elijah really needed. Simple words to get across the fact that as much as Adele frustrated the boy, they had to behave like adults. Even though the boy hated the word "adult". It was kind of pointless, but given the situation..."I don't want us to be enemies," Elijah finally said quietly. "At least not in front of Bonnie. If we have to pretend, we'll pretend and take everything out on each other when we're not around her," his words were soft but demanding, perfectly articulated for the circumstance. "Let's face it...you're her big sister, and she needs you a lot more than she needs me," that part pained the boy a bit...Adele and Bonnie were actually related, and as much as it drove him crazy, family was family. "If I need to back off while you're around, I will," even softer, and definitely filled with emotion. Radiating...making things even more uncomfortable. "I know the importance of family. My older sister is..." Elijah was unsure of how to finish that thought. So he didn't, instead jumping to the next one. "So take the reigns, I suppose. But I'll be here. And I'll do what I have to do in order to keep things in control," any kind of control, any kind of order. "Be a sister. But do it correctly," harsh words, maybe...but Elijah wasn't exactly one to sugar coat. And if he pissed off a daughter of Zeus in the meanwhile, so be it. Things could always be worse.

Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Re: Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Guest Sat Jun 08, 2013 7:56 pm

Muttering under her breath was a habit Adele had done her best to destroy years prior, and her opinion of anyone that continued to mutter under their breath so close to Adele's age was nearly negative. In Elijah's case, there was no longer any hope of him leaving a positive opinion in anything that didn't involve mentoring Bonnie - he was wonderful at that. If Adele hadn't listened to so many stories of Bonnie recounting Elijah's greatness, perhaps the older Frye might've been more welcoming to the surrogate Frye, but no - that was a complete lie. Bonnie had held such a high opinion of Elijah that her views had rubbed off on Adele. Until that meeting at the campfire, Adele had been looking forward to meeting the camper, even if she still highly disapproved of Bonnie being sent to this camp and not school. If the first meeting between Adele and Elijah had gone any better, things might have been different, but they weren't, so Adele made up her mind to stop wasting attention and time on what could have been.

Whatever an Irish Message was, Adele didn't know, and she didn't pause to think it over. Letters? No - Adele hadn't sent them. All the Fryes had learned that one dyslexic writing another dyslexic was a bad idea and had ultimately discouraged the two sisters from writing each other, if Adele's memory was to be trusted. Instead, she had emailed her parents (and Bonnie, back when she thought the three were still living together), spell check and all, and once Adele found out about Bonnie's year-round place or residence, Adele had emailed her parents nearly exclusively and nearly every day, demanding answers that she never quite received. Even in her anger, Adele knew that she couldn't be trusted when it came to hiding her anger from Bonnie. Their parents deserved to know how much Adele had been hurt by that secret - none of it was Bonnie's fault, and Adele would do everything she could to keep Bonnie from knowing exactly how angry Adele was. Bonnie would only know her sister's love, until the younger Frye took a rake to the older Frye's shoulder again - once was definitely enough.

But what Elijah implied was truly awful, and Adele's eyebrows twitched as thoughts swirled in her head. No, terrible is deluding a sweet, naive ten-year-old into believing whole-heartedly that her life is really filled with nonexistent gods and convincing her that she can avoid the "outside world" forever, she began, missing the first few words that he followed with, despite the pause. (Angry Adele thoughts took a while to get going - cattiness in readily-available quantities was not a learned or innate skill for her.) In hindsight, Adele would probably say that she had spent too much time thinking about herself, when Elijah was the one she was supposed to be focused on. Regardless, the next phrase he said managed to pacify Adele slightly, though Elijah continued to be Elijah-like, and therefore a constant irritant for Adele. The more he spoke, the more catty, internal Adele took off, slinging insults back and forth like a yoyo.

From another person's mouth, Adele possibly would have been able to offer a stiff nod (at her worst) and accept or at least give a non-judgmental response to Elijah's proposal. It was, after all, the exact thing Adele wanted. No fighting around Bonnie. Adele got to be "Big Sis" again. Elijah would merely be the background... A place that Bonnie could possibly forget about him, but Adele knew better - both she and Bonnie had a knack for remembering things no one else wanted them to, like the times Adele caught Kathy and Don fighting. True to the low, slimy form Adele associated with Elijah, the last insult was the most serious, and was the one that set Adele off the most. In what felt like less than a second, the Coloradan closed the distance between the two in a few steps, bringing her hand up, then down, in the direction of the boy's face. The cruel part of Adele remarked that it was nice hitting someone that Adele didn't have to reach so far up for, but the rest of her was in shock. How dare he question her views of what a sibling had to do.

"Keep your tongue in control," Adele whispered, her voice just as quiet and emotional as Elijah's had been.

Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Re: Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Elijah Emmanual-Wheelan Mon Jun 17, 2013 6:34 pm

The silence that had fallen over the two...Elijah hated silence.  It made his mind whir with all the issues being presented, what the other person was thinking, how he could react in any given situation.  Right now, things weren't looking too pretty.  He and Adele were seeing far from eye-to-eye, and although the boy knew things were going to start getting dangerous, he could control the chaotic feelings bubbling up in his chest.  The radiation starting to roll off his body.  There was something extraordinarily detestable about "Big Three" kids...though perhaps it was really just Elijah who was extraordinarily detestable.  Watching Adele with a grumpy frown for a bit, Elijah just wanted to figure out how to end this, and end it quickly.  He had already said that the daughter of Zeus should go be a big sister to Bonnie and he would step back.  Unsaid words, of course...until I'm needed again.  Was that not enough for the older girl?  Wasn't that what she wanted?  Who knew what she was thinking?  As much as Elijah wished he could get in her head, there was no way he could.  That in itself made him anxious, probably radiating more.  Chaos...everyone reacted differently to it.  And the boy really didn't want to mess around with a daughter of Zeus and the whole thing.  But he couldn't help himself and Adele wasn't leaving...it should have put up major red flags, but Elijah didn't care enough at this point.  It would be wrong of him to just let Adele walk off and disappear on Bonnie again and again.  Siblings didn't do that to each other.  It was something Elijah understood more now than ever before.  Ever since Lúth had been kidnapped, and...the blue crystal hanging around his neck beat steadily like a heartbeat.  Once Lúth got back, the boy would never let anything happen to her again.

All this thinking was going to get Elijah in trouble.  A quick glance at Adele made it pretty clear that her brain was whirring, too.  The boy knew this was bad, he could hear the voice of reason in his head...but that wasn't how the son of Discordia worked.  In fact, he was nearly certain that being completely insane was a requirement of children of Discordia.  Maybe not a requirement.  Just the way it was, at the very least.  The looks passing across Adele's face suggested Elijah's words were ringing true, at least.  That was reassuring, and although the boy thought that may be claims for a win, he was kind of hesitant to jump to that conclusion too quickly.  Children of Zeus couldn't be that easy to deal with...probably even worse than Discordia kids.  Or maybe they were equal there...king of the Gods and the minor Goddess of chaos.  Chaos and strife...both of which Elijah embodied exceedingly well.  None of this was good.  This was far from good.  And the boy was pretty sure it was just going to get worse if the two continued this face off.  But the boy wasn't the type to turn away, especially as the air crackled with promises of fighting.  Elijah fed off of it...just wanted more and more.  It was terrible, because he knew he should stop, but he couldn't.  Not with all this chaos to feed off of.  And it was building.

Building and building...Elijah should have taken a step back, he could tell something was coming.  But it was far too late to figure out what was going on before Adele slapped him across the face.  Without even thinking, the boy found himself slapping back.  If someone had been watching the two, it probably looked like something out of a comedy movie.  Although most people wouldn't find it too funny, a guy hitting a girl...not that Elijah had ever let that stop him in the past.  If someone deserved to be hit, they deserved to be hit.  Maybe it was too much, but the boy had never been anything if not over-the-top.  The two small teenagers (Elijah couldn't have been more than an inch taller than Adele, now that they were so close) facing off...danger so tangibly in the air.  "Are you completely insane?" Elijah hissed, bright blue eyes narrowed at the girl.  He ended up in this type of confrontation too often for comfort.  People with more "power" than he had, pissing him off, pushing the boy further and further.  Why?  Because they thought they could?  Because Elijah hated the idea of authority and hierarchy?  The idea of one half-blood being more important than another drove the boy crazy anyway.  Thoughts, running quickly through the boy's head, making him take a small step back.  If Elijah didn't find the balance between his thoughts and his physical impulses, things were just going to get even worse.  Chaos control wasn't something the son of Discordia was any good at, and if the boy didn't take it easy...try to gain back some semblance of restraint...

"Don't you dare tell me to keep my tongue in control!" Elijah finally shouted.  Words were never the boy's strong suit...he had always been much better at expressing himself through violence.  But he had to be careful.  Too much assault against Adele and the boy would probably find himself being struck by lightning.  "Keep my tongue in control?  Well, Miss Holier-than-thou...are you that afraid to deal with someone telling it like it is?  Don't want to hear it?  Don't tell me to keep my tongue in control!" the boy felt the anger spilling over...he hated being given orders like that...fact of the matter was Adele was no better than Elijah, and she had no right to tell him to 'keep his tongue in control'.  Hands balling in and out of fists, Elijah stared furiously for another moment, trying to figure out how to get his point across without hitting Adele again and not dying by lightning strike.  "I told you I'd step aside for you," the boy finally snapped.  "You do what you do and I'll do what I do.  But don't make me into the bad guy because I'm telling you to do it right.  Because, as usual...you'll leave and I'll pick up the pieces.  It doesn't matter who's in the wrong...does it?  As long as you have someone to put the blame on, everything's fine, isn't it?" Elijah was furious and had no idea what he was saying anymore.  With a deep breath, Elijah took another small step back, staring...and ready to lash out again if he had to.

Echoes ((Adele Frye)) Empty Re: Echoes ((Adele Frye))

Post by Guest Sat Jun 22, 2013 12:50 am

Adele's view of the world suddenly changed - she had been looking at Elijah's face, giving him a look of fury that was only appropriate for the situation, but then the floor stood out, her cheek on fire from a hit, the inside rough and probably bleeding from where it had been pressed into her teeth. Don't get hit with your mouth open, Liam had advised her once, after she'd run into a tree branch her one and only time boarding. The differences, notably, between then and now, were that her face was free of bark and splinters, and her opponent still stood infront of her, having failed to knock her flat on face. Elijah was much more animated than the tree, making him a more entertaining target to hit, and one that was infinitely more satisfy to yell at and prove wrong - and she would prove him wrong. For starters, no, Adele was not completely insane. Some shrink somewhere probably could find enough motive to have Adele committed (if the world still worked like that), but until she was sent screaming and kicking to that appointment, Adele was not completely insane; merely passionate and angry. It was the sort of mood that people desperately tried to avoid evoking in the ginger, even if it was supremely difficult for anyone but Elijah to work her up to. But he had managed to do so, pushing her even slightly further into a state of cold fury.

A spot just behind the center of her sternum dropped in temperature as Adele exhaled, the fists her hands had unconsciously balled into relaxing. Before the next breath in, Adele found herself matching Elijah's gaze, the anger now acting as a motivator to simply win, not destroy him, as she had wanted to do before he had hit her back. The space between the two of them was already small (given their relatively short arm lengths), but Adele felt the need to make it smaller. In her experience, people were unnerved when she got that close - yes, small girls got spunky, but no one really expected her to remain small during a fight, unlike the other girls that suddenly thought they were 6'5". It was a tactic that Adele didn't fully expect to work on Elijah, but she could hope, and she could certainly try. As the calm that accompanied her particular brand of cold fury set in, the words he yelled rang through her mind with a crisp sort of clarity that came with higher-than-normal levels of cynicism, levels that almost made her laugh about the disconnect between the two. Elijah thought she was mad because she couldn't take a criticism? A half-truth, at best, though Adele managed to censor her answer so that he would hopefully never know "being told like it is" was not something she dealt with well most of the time. "You think I'm mad because a pretty little boy's trying to call me out on not being able to take some words?" It was harsh, but Adele couldn't care less at that point. He'd insulted her abilities, he'd questioned her capabilities, and nice-ities had been thrown out the window. He wanted a Frye that would treat him nicely? He had Bonnie for that. He wanted to tell Adele how he saw it? She'd respond just as violently.

And then Elijah finished, and Adele found herself letting out a low chuckle. Oh yes, he'd have to pick up the pieces, but he wouldn't be in the wrong. As much as she hated Elijah, she found herself admitting (in the privacy of her head) that he was a great sibling. Winter break had been full of stories of Bonnie and Elijah, and for Bonnie's happiness, Adele had held her tongue. But Bonnie was not there, allowing Adele full access of her hateful, spiteful things to say, though she tried to keep a cap on her volume and language, the latter a terribly difficult challenge for her - college had not been a great habit-former when it came to her casual conversation dialogue. "Has Bonnie ever told you what it was like growing up in our family? Has she ever told you about 'Sister Adele' or 'Friendly-Stranger Addy?' 'Cause I can guarantee I only fit one of those roles in her brain. I'm not 'Adele Frye, sister of Bonnie' to her. I'm 'Addy,' the stange girl Mom and Dad decided to take in. You-" Adele couldn't help herself - Elijah deserved a hefty push in the chest, and Adele didn't shy away from giving him one, "-keep bringing up these God-forsaken 'pieces' of Bonnie's heart or your peace of mind or whatever, but they don't exist. When I leave for school, I'm doing the normal thing - I'm not the oddball that's hiding in a fantasy world, avoiding my future like you and everyone else that stays here year-round. God knows why my parents are letting Bonnie stay here where people like you trick her into believing this camp is factual, but let me tell you like it is.

"When Bonnie wakes up one day and goes back to school, she won't be thinking I was the one lying to her. She'll come back to Colorado, and she'll live with me, in the mountains, where we grew up,"
Adele suddenly stopped, licking her lips in an attempt to wet an untimely dry mouth. Adele, admittedly, had lost sight of where that lecture was headed, but the girl would be struck down by lightning before she gave up on a rant like that. "So next time to try to pin some family misconnect on me, just remember I'm being who Bonnie wants me to be - a stranger that loves her and has always been there. A stranger that's just as much a part of the Frye family as she's not. And I'm just a stranger, finally splitting off from her family, doing my own thing. You're her brother, at least that's what the rumor mill says. Don't be catty and try to take down someone that's she's grown to love." Adele turned slightly, giving Elijah a long look before she broke eye contact and shook her head, completely unaware of how different that conversation would have been if she had taken one less magical potion. But she was oblivious, and just as clueless that her hair had been sparking, the red in high contrast with the blue-purple. "Have a good day, and take care of him," Adele said finally, pushing on the door that led outside and focusing on leaving the Roman camp as fast as she could, even though Russell was now the least of her worries, having lost his place to Bonnie, Elijah and Calix.

((Aaaaaaaand that's that... Kinda fell apart at the end.))
