Valentines date ((Calix, PG13)) Empty Valentines date ((Calix, PG13))

Post by Guest Wed Feb 13, 2013 4:52 pm

Lúthien had never been a fan of Valentines day. Lúthien had, in the past, hated Valentines day. It had seemed silly to the girl that people would supposedly celebrate their love on one single day when it should happen every day. Even though Lúthien still believed in that, she wasn't as opposed to the idea as she had once been. After, she had a boyfriend these days and Valentines day was a perfect excuse to get his nose away from the mountains of paperwork he did every day. Not that the young woman had any objections against the paperwork or the work her boyfriend put into it, not in the slightest. She actually saw it as a bit of a game, teasing and taunting him until he gave the work a break and gave her the desired attention. She hardly ever bothered him when the paperwork seemed to be too much though, as she didn't want him to feel guilty about falling behind or something. Today, she wouldn't care if the mountain was the size of mount Everest, she'd have his full attention that night, he'd promised. Lúthien walked over to the Principia, it was shortly before dinnertime and Calix had asked her to come to the Principia rather than to just eat at the mess hall. It made Lúthien a little curious as to what he'd planned, but she herself was even more nervous about a little something she'd planned.

Lúthien and Calix had been getting more and more intimate since her return from Austria but they had never gone... all the way. Sure, they'd had some pretty wild evenings but nothing had ever really happened. Lúthien wanted that to change today, if she dared. It was fear that she'd lose her nerve that actually made Lúthien most nervous. She could handle it all, without a doubt and she desired it but she hadn't had the courage to pull through just yet. She bit her lip nervously, her fingers closing around the little box in her pocket. She'd found a gift for Calix. It wasn't expensive, it was probably rather worthless but that didn't matter. It held an immense value to Lúthien herself, as it was a happy memory. She would give it to Calix to carry with him and remind him of her, like his ring reminded her of him. With a smile she walked on, and into the Principia. Upon entering she instantly started searching for Calix, although she didn't see him. It wasn't like she'd expected him to be waiting just behind the door with a bouquet of roses or something but she had secretly expected him to be busy with paperwork.

It was at that point that she noticed that the Principia smelt funny. Not funny in a bad way, but just different. It smelled like food, and that was fairly unusual for as far as Lúthien knew. With a slight frown on her face she walked in. "Calix?" She called out softly as she closed the door behind her and made her way to his desk. Sitting on a chair in front of it (not his chair ofcourse), she patiently waited for her boyfriend to start explaining stuff. She was a little curious why this place smelled like food. She plucked a piece of grass of her black skinny jeans and checked her corset. It was a deep red with black lace and Lúthien was rather fond of it. She'd found it in the suitcase her parents had given to Calix to drag here from Austria. Lúthien had always liked the more alternative clothes but she usually just wore happy coloured t-shirts with a skull on them for the sake of comfort. It also made sure she didn't receive as many strange looks as she did with the corsets. Today she didn't care though, she wanted to like nice for Calix, so that was what she'd attempted with her clohtes.

Calix picked a fabulous day to teach himself how to cook... all sarcasm intended. From the early hours of the morning Calix had been up, rushing back and forth from the Legion's Mess to his room, preparing. The Mess to check on the food on the stove and his room for the other things he had to get ready for the night. All the while the pile of paperwork on his desk sat undone. But Calix didn't care. Not in the least. He needed to get this done and this needed to be perfect. So it was slightly reasonable that, after the third failed attempt to get the dish right, he felt more than a little bit frustrated. Grumbling, Calix turned down the heat on the stove and dumped the contents of the pot into the trash. Immediately he started another, wiping sweat from his brow and going through the same routine that he did the first three times. That part he had no problem with. But for some reason, when it reached the last ten minutes or so for it to cook properly, it decided to go up in flames. Perhaps he read something wrong in the recipe... the temperature should have been different. But no, Calix stared intently at the cookbook. And everything was perfect. So why?!

He sat on a stool his hands over his mouth, watching the pot intently. Twenty minutes to go until it should have been finished. Ten till disaster was sure to strike. Calix rolled up his sleeves and glanced at the clock. Six twenty-five. Lúthien should be at the Principia in five minutes. Calix did a quick double take. Five minutes! The Praetor jumped up so quickly he overturned the stool and plucked the pot from the stove, still near burning hot. Cringing, Calix bolted out of the kitchen and tore across the street, trying not to burn off his hands. He burst in the door and ran into his room, placing the food on the ground and hurriedly changing into something a bit more suited for a dinner date: an entire suit minus the suit jacket. He threw on his tie and tightened it till he nearly choked himself and fumbled for a bottle of cologne, trying to rid himself of the hot and cramped smell of the Mess kitchen. He'd just got to feeling that time had gotten back on his side when he heard the Principia door open once more. Without a doubt it was Lúthien, and Calix felt himself panic again. So much for being the calm and collected leader of the Legion. He chided himself and took a deep breath. He'd take this one step at a time, try to explain why he was such a bad boyfriend somewhere in one of those steps..but step one.

Calix smoothed out some hair stuck-up for some reason unknown and picked up the bouquet of roses. In its stead he placed the pot of still steaming food and put on his black shoes before exiting his room. Lúthien sat at the chair across from his side of the table, looking very pretty in an outfit much more casual than what Calix had on. He inwardly frowned. He overdressed, didn't he? Outwardly however, Calix grinned. She looked amazing, and she was there. That's what mattered. Calix walked toward his girlfriend and cleared his throat slightly. Calix stopped to Lúthien's left and held out the flowers. "Hello, Lúthien. Happy Valentine's Day." Hopefully he'd get her happy enough that his failure of romance would go unnoticed. Hopefully.

Lúthien waited in the chair for a moment, mainly because it didn't take much longer than a moment for Calix to show up. Lúthien smiled when she saw him and took in his suit and her face suddenly turned to form a frown. It wasn't a disapproving one, more a worried or concerned one. "I under dressed, didn't I?" She asked with a bit of a sheepish smile. Calix smiled and that made all her worries fade to the background. He approached and suddenly held out flowers to her. Lúthien carefully took them in her own hands and looked at them with a smile of joy and a strange sense of calm. She put the flowers down on the side of the table gentle, as if they were made of glass and could shatter with a single wrong movement. When she was sure the flowers were safe, she pulled a small box from her pocket and handed it over to Calix. "Happy Valentine." She said softly, nervously even, after surrendering her gift to him. She hoped he would like it, but she feared he wouldn't. The fear was probably irrational but she just didn't want to disappoint.

She walked closer and wrapped her arms around him before he could open the little box and look at the gift it contained. She pulled back slightly and only to give him a kiss. It was a short one but it still managed to make Lúthien smile and brought joy to her being. "I love you and the roses are beautiful." She softly whispered in his ear and with another quick kiss she took a step back and tried to locate the source of the scent she'd noticed upon arrival. It seemed to be the scent of food, a hot meal. She looked around, utterly confused. It didn't smell like a microwave meal and she hadn't seen any type of kitchen in the Principia in all her days there. She shot a curious look around the room. "Why does it smell like food?" She asked curiously while looking around the room for a little bit. She was starting to get a little hungry but on that point corsets really were a blessing. They not only made her seem slimmer, they also took a fair amount of her appetite away. The less space there is in the belly, the less food is desired.

Lúthien straightened her corset, although it was perfectly straight, and fussed around with her outfit a little. Her mind was racing along her past Valentines days. None of those had been anything special. She had once received a single rose from a secret admirer but that one had changed his mind when she'd 'forgotten' to take the rose home with her. She'd handed it over to somebody else because she'd been feeling rather horrible that years. It had been the year that every friend had left her so she'd presumed the sender meant nothing good by it. Lúthien chuckled at the silly memory, although she still wasn't sure if that one rose had been sent with good intent or not. She didn't even care, as the sender was bound to harbour at least some bad feelings for her. It was in her nature to get people to dislike her, unless she liked them. If she was indifferent, people usually went for the dislike option. Now she was loved with more than one rose, a whole bunch of them actually. It showed how much her life had changed since moving to camp Jupiter. Lúthien missed Austria quite often but she would give it all up for Calix in the blink of an eye. This was her true home, her official home if only by the heritage of her mother. It was enough, as she had a place to call home, somewhere she truly belonged.

Lúthien seemed to have the same train of thought as Calix but in the opposite direction. The Praetor smiled a lot wider at her embarrassed look (which he thought was more adorable than anything else) and shook his head slightly. Who wore suits to dates in one's own house anyway? After Lúthien took the flowers Calix undid his tie and took it off, unbuttoning the first two buttons of his white shirt and undoing the cuffs, so he looked more casual. He spread his arms to show off his effort, keeping the same smile. Lúthien got out of her seat and made her way over to him after placing the roses ever so gently on the desk. She had something for him as well. Lúthien pulled a box out of her pocket and passed it into Calix's hands. He thought he heard a little tremor in her voice and felt it in her hands when she returned his greeting. He wondered the reason behind her sudden nervousness... she never had to be nervous around him. Lúthien hugged him, and Calix returned it. He loved how something as simple as a hug brought a brighter light to his face: a grin that couldn't be wiped off his face if he tried.

The kiss only made it better. Gods he loved her. Calix would have swept her away right at that moment, if he didn't have a pot of spaghetti hiding in his room along with a dirty apron and horribly dull armor (as in it hadn't been polished since yesterday). Lúthien's breath touched his ear, and he smiled against her hair, moving a little to kiss her cheek. "I love you too," he whispered with his eyes half closed. She kissed him again the pulled back before he got a chance to return it, leaving him standing there with a weird and awkward about-to-kiss facial expression. Thankfully, Lúthien's eyes were away from him and glancing around the room with her nose scrunched up. Calix's heart stopped. Oh no. She smelled it. Calix tried to keep the panic from his face, but he nearly cursed out loud when she asked about the Principia smelling like food. Calix kept his hands on Lúthien's waist, and he shrugged in what he hoped was a nonchalant way. But he couldn't exactly brush off the question with the scent of marinara already wafting throughout the entire place.

Calix grumbled incoherently, and glanced at Lúthien, an apology in his eyes. "I... ah.... tried to cook for you." His face now mirrored Lúthien's formerly sheepish smile, and he let go of her. Calix glanced behind him to his room. He motioned for her to wait for just a second and ran into his room to retrieve the still simmering pot, making sure his door didn't open all the way to reveal the un-Praetorly mess behind it. Calix brought it out, frowning now instead of smiling in an embarrassed way. "This is the third try... I fear it's still as bad as the others." He set it down in the middle of the table and crossed his arms, still staring at it as if daring it to taste bad, though he knew that it wouldn't need prompting... it seemed to like to make him angry. Calix pulled out two forks and tried for another smile. "But we can try anyway."

While Lúthien put the flowers down, Calix made himself look a little less formal. It made Lúthien smile, as their clothes told how different they really were on the spectrum of order and chaos. Calix had dressed in a suit, a piece of clothing associated with formal occasions, office work and other orderly things. People who issued orders or followed them. Trained and disciplined. Lúthien with her corset would be more likely to remind people of an out of bounds teenager or a grown woman refusing to walk within the lines people painted for her. Following her own path regardless of expectations and rules. Two opposites that were perfectly united in this relationship. They had a perfect and strong balance between order and chaos. Lúthien smiled calmly and found her way into his embrace as she always did. His arms felt like home to her and if she was honest to herself, she missed home while at camp. She missed it unless she was with Calix, as he gave her another place to belong.

At home, a long standing Valentines tradition centered around a pie with red icing. Incredibly sweet and always abundantly decorated. The tradition started when Lúthien had started to realise what Valentines day meant, when she'd first gotten interested in boys. Her mother had brought things for making the pie and the first time it had failed beyond belief. It had been a failed experiment but they had gotten better over the years. The last several ones the pies had actually counted as comfort food, although Lúthien hadn't exactly been heartbroken or even cared nobody asked her out or anything. She'd made it that way herself. She was still surprised when she found out what the smell of food around this place meant today. He'd tried to cook for her? It made her a little confused but nothing out of the ordinary. She tried to decide what she thought it smelled like, and in the end she decided on... pasta?

Calix went to fetch the food he'd cooked for her, soon after admitting this was the third try. He expected it to be bad and for a moment, Lúthien felt like denying him. She stopped though, not because it smelled bad but because she didn't want to risk saying it'd probably be okay only to prove him right. She'd rather prove him wrong, which meant keeping her mouth shut so it couldn't be worse than she expected. Calix always tried to achieve perfection so no doubt that he'd tried again this time. Still, Lúthien guessed cooking wasn't his strongest suit. Lúthien wasn't exactly all that good but she knew she was a decent cook at worst. She smiled at him. "Isn't love the most important ingredient?" She teased him, pressing a quick kiss on his cheek. "Because I know there's plenty of that in it." She said with a warm smile while accepting one of the forks. "You should open the gift though." She added softly. She thought about the little item in the box. A pendant shaped like a droplet. Glass with little pieces of blue glass in it, she'd made it herself when she was young. It was about an inch tall and Lúthien was quite fond of it. She just hoped Calix would feel the same.

Calix was always confident. Chin tilted upward in a perfect expression, perfect posture, perfect attire, perfect attitude. Even in things he wasn't experienced with. When the Legacy of Bellona first picked up a weapon other than his gladius, he put on quite a show pretending he knew how to use it. But his father, with much much more experience with blades saw right through it. That could also be attributed to the fact that Calix was a horrid liar. So he didn't try to lie in front of Lúthien to save face. Not that he needed to lie to her at all. She still would love him despite his weakness though, wouldn't she? Calix pushed that ridiculous worry from his mind because it was just that: ridiculous. Of course she would... even though Calix couldn't cook. It bothered the Praetor more than it would bother her, he was sure. He was the one who always expected perfection from himself... it certainly didn't look like Lúthien was disappointed. The smile she gave him mirrored her previous looks of love. Hopefully she'd keep that once she tasted it. The one thing he couldn't do (to his knowledge anyway). Calix almost sighed in disappointment, but Lúthien's kisses always seemed to make him feel better

Calix 'hmm'ed' when Lúthien pecked him on the cheek. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her, not allowing her to leave just yet. "Maybe it's because I added too much," he mused even though he knew that couldn't be possible. Sometimes Calix found it off-putting how much Lúthien distracted him. She even managed to keep his attention away from a present she'd given to him which, in itself, would have kept Calix's attention for a long time anyway. The Praetor chuckled at this thought and released Lúthien from his embrace before stepping back to open the present. The box hinted at some type of jewelry, something that piqued his interest a little more, and he opened it.

A pendant. A pendant in the shape of a tear-drop. Small, made of glass with the little nuances of blue on the inside making it shimmer. Calix pulled it out of the box and held it delicately in his palm. He didn't know what to think, what to say. The Praetor carefully slipped the pendant over his head. Every single move he made regarding the pendant was nothing short of gentle. Part of him believed that if he applied to smallest bit of force to it, that it'd shatter. Wow. Lúthien must have gone out of her way to get this.... but did she buy it? Calix looked at the pendant closely again. The way it was shaped, with its tiny perfect imperfections that couldn't be seen unless one was looking for them and the look on Lúthien's face almost similar to the one that Calix wore when it came to his cooking. A tad nervous... worrying that she wouldn't like it, something he'd created. It must have been the same for Lúthien. Calix crossed the small space between them, pulled Lúthien against him and kissed her on the lips. He pulled away smiling. "It's beautiful." Calix hugged Lúthien. "I love it."

Lúthien looked at Calix while nerves coursed though her veins and made her heart beat almost painfully. She waited and every single movement of Calix in unpacking her gift seemed to somehow happen in slow motion. She just wanted to kick something in order to bring time back into it's normal speed. She wasn't exactly sure if she could kick anything or anybody so she just settled back down a little. Sometimes Lúthien simply lacked any kind of patience. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Calix's face as he looked at the gift she'd brought him. He treated it carefully, almost as if it were fragile. Lúthien wasn't exactly sure how much the little thing could take as she'd never really tested it but she was sure it wasn't quite as fragile as he treated it. Somehow that knowledge only made her happy, as it showed he would risk no harm to befall the gift he'd received from her. Now they always carried a piece of the other with them. Lúthien with the ring and Calix with the pendant.

He finally kissed her and spoke his opinion of the ring out loud. She returned his kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck and standing on tip-toes, leaning into his kiss. Falling into his arms and for a moment she forgot about the dinner he'd cooked her. She made sure the kiss lasted for a while, pressing her body against his. Just as things started to get interesting, Lúthien broke the kiss and with a teasing smile she sat down to eat the food. She got a fair amount of food on her plate and picked up her fork, smiling at Calix. "Let's see exactly how this tastes." She said thoughtfully as she loaded some of it onto her fork and took a bite. She wasn't sure what she had expected, how bad it was if she believed his words. Lúthien chewed and found that the flavours weren't exactly balanced but they worked well enough. The largest problem was the slightly burnt taste that seemed to be a little too prominent. He wasn't a great cook and on the point of food, Lúthien had been a little spoiled by her parents. Both of them were good cooks and Lúthien hardly ever got a bad meal in her life. She suddenly started to think it was about time she herself got started in the kitchen.

Still Lúthien ate the meal, as she was fairly hungry. She might as well eat since there was food on the table. She looked at Calix with a smile. "You know this really as bad you think it is?" She commented dryly. Perhaps she was misguided by love, as everything seemed to much better when Calix was around. Maybe that was a reason she actually found she enjoyed the food. She stopped eating for a bit though, looking at Calix with a curious and tempted expression. A smile slowly grew on her face but she said nothing. She almost couldn't believe that he was truly hers. That they had somehow found one another and had fallen in love. For they had fallen in love, impossibly deep. Lúthien had no doubts that she'd give her own life to save him and she was fairly sure he felt exactly the same. He made her a better person, or rather inspired her to be one. Only he made her regret some of her more unruly actions (like making her brother almost kill her). He cared for her and she for him. That was the most important thing.
